You have to thank an American for saving this for us and what a save it was.
This stunning house in its fabulous setting is enlivened by a succesion of friendly ,helpful and knowledgable room steward volunteers who added to our enjoyment of the visit.
It was well worth the detour off the M25 on our journey south and comend it to anyone.

“The setting, on a hot summer's day, is just perfect.”
Reviewed 29 June 2014 via mobile

The house itself dates from 1320 and is set around an internal courtyard, features include the original 14th century Great Hall, Old Chapel, Crypt, and a Tudor chapel with a painted ceiling, with motifs reflecting the marriage of Catherine of Aragon to Henry VIII.

“history at its best”

A large car park greets you at this lovely old house, free to National Trust members, a wonderful trip through each room and you can really imagine how they lived. A sumptuous restaraunt for lunch completes your visit.

“Make the detour”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

It is difficult to say a bad word about my trip to Ightham Mote….so I won’t! The building is simply beautiful. The gardens are a delight, (I went on a sunny day and no doubt saw it at its best.) The refurbishment of the whole building is amazing and I would recommend taking the time to watch the Time Team programme which is televised inside the building, which shows in detail the enormous amount of work that was done to conserve this treasured part of our history. Rooms have been restored to reflect different eras in Ightham’s history, there are deco hints, Victorian, Tudor, old and new. An interesting place brought to life by the enthusiastic volunteers who bless the National Trust (and us!) with their valuable contributions. The restaurant, offers a range of cooked mains and light lunches along with beverages and ice cream. Excellent potato and herb soup with a fresh hunk of granary bread (£5.50) really hit the spot.

“Tranquil beauty in the Kent countryside”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

Despite being a grey summers day we made the trip to Ightham Mote in late May. Last time we went was in the 1980's not long after the National Trust took possession. The location is relatively easy to reach and is in a lovely rural setting. The rooms within the house are well presented and the room guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We had a guided tour of the gardens with a gentleman who enthused about his subject with much aplomb. Finishing with a trip to the café it was a good day out.
