St Abbs is beautiful, and small and friendly. Brierydean gave us a perfect base for a relaxing long weekend. Definitely has a homely feel and enough space for us all to kick back and enjoy each other's company.

“Perfect”
Reviewed 11 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Stayed last week with my husband and dog for a mini honeymoon. The property was clean throughout and in good order with everything we needed to make us comfortable for a short break, felt very relaxed in the house. The walks around St Abbs are easy to find and stunning scenery. We took a trip to Holy Island (check tide times) one evening and watched a lovely sunset, we also ventured to Spittal Beach to walk the dog and for a wander around Berwick Upon Tweed. St Abbs harbour is beautiful and there are good light meals or breakfast at the harbour cafe. There are loads more places to visit but having visited St Abbs since I was a child I'm quite content to walk around the local area and breathe in the St Abbs air, it's such an unspoilt area of Scotland.
Thanks to Pamela also for speedy communication and also the bottle of wine that was waiting for us, much appreciated.
Would definitely book the house again, plenty of room also to holiday with friends and children also.

“Home from home”
Reviewed 6 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Enjoyed a 3 night break with our family and two young grandchildren. House was equipped with everything you could need which made it a really comfortable stay. Lots of extras too eg a great collection of DVDs, games etc. Would loved to have been staying longer and been able to enjoy the garden and all the chairs, paddling pool, BBQ etc that was in the shed for use. Would recommend as suitable for any age group.

“Great stay fab location”
Reviewed 30 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

had a loverly stay at the cottage
We stayed as a group of 4 adults and two children there was plenty of room for everyone
The play station and all the games were a great hit for my son all the board games were great fun in an evening after a good days diving locally. There was also a little study for our niece to do her study work in relative peace and quiet. To sum it up a great base in beautiful area.

“Quiant with Quirks”
Reviewed 22 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We had a lovely time at Brierydean in St Abbs. The key collection process was simple and easy and the house was bright and spacious and there was a good supply of crockery and utensils in the kitchen. The dining room is located in the conservatory, which was perfect for our stay in mid-September, but could prove more challenging at colder times of year.

The village itself is a lovely little place (little being the operative word here!). I can recommend Ebbcarrs cafehighly enough. Really friendly staff and my wife loved the lobster there so much we made an extra visit on our last day for more. (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1580708-d4134273-Reviews-Ebbcarrs_Cafe-St_Abbs_Scottish_Borders_Scotland.html)

There is a good amount to do for children too. There's a good play park 50 yards from the house and another at the local "Number Four Gallery". It is also a fairly short walk to the beach at Coldingham. The cafe at the beach opens at about 11 and serves cheap and cheerful fair (bacan rolls etc).

If you want soft play, then there is Hurly-Burly at Duns, which is good, but be warned that it is a lengthy drive on windy roads. There is also the East Links Family Park (feeding farm and play park) at Dunbar, but this one is £12 per adult and £6 for a two-year-old, so beware.

The garden at the house was also a hit with our son (two-years-old) and is prettily presented.

As for the quirks, there are a few things with the house that could use some attention. The bathroom ceiling could do with a refresh as there's a bit of mould there (understandable for a well used place). The drawer fronts came off the chest of drawers in the main bedroom (managed to locate a bottle of wood glue and fix it myself) and the mattress in the main bedroom needs to be replaced. It feels like it has collapsed. The plumbing is interesting; not broken or anything, but if you switch any of the taps on in the house then 75% of the time, the shower starts running too! Like I said, interesting.

The house has a lovely fireplace. There was a basket full of newspaper and some kindling and a log. Outside there was a store of more wood, but the rest of the logs hadn't been cut down to size and there were (understandably) no saws or axes around. However, we quite happily popped along to the petrol station at Eyemouth and bought a bag of logs and kindling for our own use.

The owner left a really useful folder of information about things to do in and around the area. There was also a good selection of films in the living room for those in-house days (including some kids films).

Thank you for your lovely review, I am so pleased you had a good stay.

I am glad you enjoyed the facilities in the house. We don't tend to supply logs in the summer - ever the optimist ! - but I am glad you found it easy enough to locate some so you could enjoy the lovely fire as the evenings are getting longer.

Just to say that the central heating extends to the conservatory so it is lovely and cosy in winter too !

“Very Practical & Idea For Us”
Reviewed 29 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We always enjoy our Holiday's in St Abbs, this now the 3rd holiday cottage that we have stayed in, in St Abbs ( date availability issues) and we would have no problem with booking this cottage again, it is very practical for our needs, they appeared to of just erected a new back garden side fence & gate, that with the gate tied up, was ideal to stop our daughter running off, we enjoyed trips to Holy Island (WARNING! Causeway Road - Check Tide Times) and East Links Family Park, the must do every time walk to St Abbs Head, visiting Coldingham Sands with our daughter, there is also a nice café in the Old School Building and an indoor market is held there on Fridays 10-4, we was also made very welcome by the locals in Eyemouth of 2 x Baby & Toddler Groups that we visited, both on Wednesdays in Local Term Time, the 1st is Little Tykes (3 years max) Community Centre, Albert Rd, TD14 5DE, 10-1130am, cost £ 1.50, after some lunch down the harbour, 2nd is Busy Bees (up to school age) Parish Church Hall, Victoria Rd, TD14 5JD 130-3pm, cost £ donation.
