We stayed at Sainte-Helene in the summer and had a wonderful time. Kay and Mark are both very welcoming and made our stay extra special. We stayed in the apartment, which was very well equipped with very generous welcome back, including milk, fresh jam, ground coffee, cheese, wine, and even more, perfect to get you started.

Mark even took us around on a wine and olive tasting day, which was brilliant, although I would recommend not doing this on your final night as our trip back to the airport took us 3 hours instead of 40 minutes after too many bottles of red the night before.

It was very relaxing to talk with Mark and Kay in the evening on the terrace, talking through where we had been in the day and for some more tips for the following day with a glass of wine. Mark is very knowledgeable about the area, and has lots of recommendations and advice along with maps and guides. The area is so picturesque and there is so much to see. We particularly enjoyed swimming in the river and lake and I would through recommend Carcassonne it's magical.

Sainte-Helene is a unique place to stay, I can honestly say I have never felt so welcome before as when we stayed at Sainte-Helene. We are hoping to come back and stay again soon.

Room Tip: We loved the apartment

We spent about 12 days in France traveling by plane and train from Paris to Cannes right along the French Riviera and into Monte Carlo, we wanted to finish our European trip by experiencing life in a French village and chose Alonzac because it is situated in the heart of France's wine region. A lot of our accommodation through France was booked on-line and we came across Sainte-Helene Chambres d'Hotes, what a discovery we had the best 4 days of the whole trip and wished we had spent more time in this little piece of French tranquility. Sainte Helene B&B was by far the best we had stayed in anywhere in Europe, our host's Kay & Mark were the consummate host's taking us for drives around the region in their spare time and filling us in on all the local history. The wine and food was everything you expect from France but it took a Kiwi and an Englishman the owners of Sainte-Helene to really make our trip a memorable one. I recommend highly. Thanks Kay & Mark

25.09.2013 After a week at Fréjus, my wife and I experienced our first bike tour together along the Canal du midi from Sète to Carcassonne. It was a beautiful trip in a very charmful landscape. On our way we stayed a night in a specially comfortable B&B in Sainte-Helene in Olonzac. The hosts Kay & Mark gave es a very warm reception and treated us like friends. The room was lovingly restored which did not only give new breath to the lovely historical house for the next decades but also an unforgetable stay for my wife and me. After sleeping in a comfortable bed, we enjoyed a great breakfast in a beautifully decorated room. It inspired us on our further drive along the Canal and before we were back home, we already decided to come back to Kay & Mark's B & B. Thanks again for all. We will recommend you with pleasure, next time we will have to spend some more time at your charming house.

Sainte-Helene is the perfect package:
1. Breakfast - Daily fresh breads with cheese, meat and local jams. Also muesli and espresso coffee.
2. Size - Huge room and bathroom. Both freshly renovated with a designers eye.
3. Hosts - Kay an Mark were great. Heaps of advise on local attractions, food, day trips etc. And always willing to go that step further to make our experience as good as possible.
4. Location - Nestled in the old town of Olonzac, in the heart of France's wine region, with loads of adventures within an hours drive. You can even pop down to Spain for lunch.

We spent a month traveling through the south of France, and this was by far, the best B&B we stayed in. Thanks Kay & Mark. :)

After a long journey from Montreal via Toulouse, we were warmly by extraordinary hosts Kay and Mark. We were traveling with 90 and 87 year old parents and the kindness and helpfulness to these two older folks was extraordinary. We also arrived with a broken car window and these hosts were able to find a car repair shop that evening who would replace the window in record time.
The beds and bedding were that of a 5 star hotel and the bathrooms were luxurious. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful in an elegant dining room and we did not want to leave.
We have travelled in France for over 20 years and this was without exception the best chamabre d'hotes we have stayed at.
We will return and next time will stay much longer!

There are not enough nice things to say about Hotel Sainte-Helene and its owners. It took Mark and Kay over a year to renovate the building, and they did an excellent job. The rooms are very tastefully decorated with lovely antiques and extra thoughts given to their guests' needs. A kettle for boiling water, various teas, coffee, and cookies are in each room. The modern bathroom with huge shower is luxurious as are the towels and linens. A small refrigerator in the breakfast room filled with water, sodas, and milk is on the honor system, as well as bottles of wine. The breakfast with any type of coffee you might want and tea, etc., is wonderful – fresh breads, pastries, fruit, yogurt, and cereal. There is a small, inviting courtyard as you enter Sainte-Helene, which is a lovely spot for a glass of wine in the late afternoon. The wi-fi worked great throughout the house. In the parlor, there is a TV and DVD player, movies and books – although I don't know why you would need to use them unless it is raining.

Mark and Kay are gracious hosts and do their best to fulfill any request made by their guests and even chauffeured us to a restaurant on our last night. Although not natives, it is obvious that Mark and Kay love the area. Their excitement when telling of the various attractions is contagious and their advice on what to see and arranging our day was spot on. Mark spent a lot of time and effort to make sure we had correct directions to our destinations. They have a wonderful cat, Monsieur Gabby, but if you are not a cat person, don't worry. You may not even know he is there.

Olonzac is a cute town in a central location for touring the Languedoc region. We had 3 of our best meals during our 2 weeks in France at restaurants in the area – one being at Bel in Olonzac itself and two in Homps, which in on the Canal du Midi and about a 5 minute drive from Olonzac. We do hope to return to the area one day, and Sainte-Helene will be where we stay. As we drove away, we felt as if we were leaving good friends. Thank you Mark and Kay for making our stay so pleasant.

My wife and I are just back (in Canada) after a lovely holiday in France. Our three-night stay at Sainte-Helene was certainly among the highlights of the trip. The room was large and comfortable, and all the facilities were excellent. Breakfast was splendid every morning (fruit, cheese, yogurt, wonderful breads and pastries, and even granola!). Olonzac is a charming village (with at least one fabulous restaurant), well situated for seeing many splendid places in the region. But it is the warmth and generosity and thoughtfulness of Mark and Kay that make this such a perfect place to stay. Both were incredibly generous with their time and knowledge (and Mark's maps kept us from getting lost on several occasions). We borrowed their bicycles for a little pedal along the Canal du Midi. It is no exaggeration to say that this is as close to perfect as any travellers could ask for.
