Following a great weekend with friends celebrating a 50th birthday. I realised I’d left behind a precious unopened bottle of vintage Port (very old!) On confirmation that the manageress had it safe in her care, we were very relieved.
While randomly passing the house a while later (we live in London) we called to see if we could drop in & collect the bottle... we were coldly told that it was not convenient & that was that! We tried to get more local friends to arrange the collection, but alas to no avail.
We are gutted about the port, but that is just Port (Although pretty special!) It was the cold, abrasive & unhelpful attitude of the manageress which left us aghast. She couldn’t wait to get my wife off the phone & didn’t offer any suggestions of how she could help us. This left us very disappointed & has tainted the idea of us ever using the house again. A real shame.
We had an amazing time for our weekend at The Grange celebrating my mothers 70th birthday. We had everything we needed and more. The house was beautiful with large grand bedrooms which were beautifully furnished and the gardens were sprawling yet picturesque with pear trees and beautiful flowers. There was so much for us to do, I think next time we will have to stay for a week to make sure we do everything! There was tennis and horse riding for people who wanted to be sporty and then swimming pool and jacuzzi for the rest who wanted to relax. The Grange put us in touch with caterers (Kim) and organised horse riding for us - both were exceptionally high standard. We couldn't have had a more perfect weekend for everyone and were made to feel very welcome.
The Grange is located in the pretty village of Horsington, Somerset handy for all our family members to meet within a few hours drive, It was as spacious and stunning as the photos and exceeded all of our expectations. A perfect holiday house with plenty of indoor and outdoor facilities to entertain 3 generations of family ( 19 of us in total) We were only sorry that we were not staying longer ! The house was big enough for us all .Beautiful gracious and welcoming formal rooms captured a sense of history and cosy spacious kitchen with fantastic light conservatory provided great communal spaces . The perfect gardens and pool area, complimented the house perfectly. We wish we had more time to play 5 -aside football and tennis too , or just sit and look at the garden , We would love to return ...
My family (22 covering three generations) had a wonderful 12 days at Somerset Grange despite very mixed weather. The range of facilities at the house both under cover and outside meant we were fully engaged every day. The pool was well heated, the tub was excellent and the 12 bicycles were well used. The cinema and snooker room covered the wet periods and the conservatory was the meeting place for all the main events. Importantly, the staff were extremely supportive and made a great contribution to a happy holiday. I therefore give the house an unqualified high mark.
Our group of 5 families (10 adults and 8 kids) just got back from a wonderful week at the Grange. The place was beautiful and huge – with plenty of room for both adults and kids (and some challenging games of hide and go seek). The grounds are stunning and the pool area and tennis courts provided a lot of entertainment for all. Su (the manager) was professional and efficient and the housekeepers were lovely and helpful. The gardener provided us with some delicious fresh fruit and veg from the gardener which was a nice touch. We went to some good local pubs and took advantage of the horse riding right next door. Overall the place was very clean and well decorated – we have stayed at a number of big houses both in the UK an abroad and we’d rate this one very highly.
Just spent the most glorious weekend, celebrating a big birthday in this fantastic very well appointed house. Would definitely recommend The Grange for large gatherings.
We spent a wonderful long weekend at The Grange recently to celebrate a 50th Birthday as a family. The accommodation and facilities are excellent with a huge focus on attention to detail. Our party consisted of 19 adults and six children of varying ages, the accommodation was more than adequate for that number. We made full use of all the outdoor facilities, enjoying games of five a side football, tennis, rounder's, swimming etc.
Thankfully our "wet weather" plan was unnecessary, however, had we had to use it, I'm confident that given the plentiful opportunity for indoor activities, such as: cinema room, table tennis, snooker etc., an enjoyable time would still have been had by all.
All communications prior to the event were handled extremely professionally and Su the team at The Grange do an excellent job and are extremely friendly and accommodating.
The well stocked larder was also very welcome and is certainly worth noting on any initial visit to avoid duplication of store cupboard items. The welcome pack of cheeses and locally produced produce was also very well received.
I cannot recommend The Grange highly enough and hope it will not be too long before our family has another reason to celebrate there.
