Great hotel, near Leiria, with a wonderful SPA, nice park for kids, and fitness park as well.
Rooms area ok in terms of size, space at work desk. The pool is really nice.
Wonderful breakfast in terms of quantity and variety.
Besides Hotel restaurant and restaurants from pensão Montanha, no other great spot to have lunch/dinner, unless travelling to Praia de Vieira de Leiria

We were travelling in family (2 adults and 2 children). Have stayed in Palace Hotel Monte Real for two nights in June 2012.

Monte Real is a thermal town close to Leiria in the Center of Portugal. The Palace Hotel is an old grand hotel from the heydays of the thermal tourism that has been deeply renovated recently – check photo of the hotel façade. The renovation included the addition of a new wing to the original building, inclusive of a modern Spa (unfortunately we didn’t have the time to try it).

We were given a very spacious suite on the 2nd floor of the original building. It included a living room with a sofa bed where the older children slept and a room that could easily accommodate an extra bed for the younger kid.

The room was decorated according to what I would define as luxurious ‘neo-baroque style’: dark carpets and wall papers, golden sofas and pillows,… I must say that I prefer ‘cleaner’ decoration styles, but, personal tastes aside, this was still a comfortable nice room.

Buffet breakfast was included on the rate. It was served on the hotel ground floor and included the variety you expect from a 4* hotel.

Service is diligent albeit inexperient at times.

Free parking is included. Same for the internet – cabled on rooms and wi-fi on common areas.

At Palace Hotel, you are less than 30 minutes away from Batalha Monastery – UNESCO world heritage – a beautiful late gothic/manueline monument. Don’t miss the unfinished chapels (capelas imperfeitas). If you are Portuguese, 2Km or so South of Batalha you have Fundação Batalha de Aljubarrota. A vivid and didactic display of how the battle unfolded and the importance it had for the future of the nation. If you are foreigner, it still provides an interesting visit and insight into a very important historical event for the making of the Portuguese identity (if you are Spanish, maybe you prefer to avoid it…).

If you stay in The Palace across a weekend, don’t miss the traditional “Tromba Rija” lunch buffet in Marrazes (close to Leiria). It might not be as popular as it was 15 years ago, but is still undoubtly a major reference among traditional Portuguese restaurants – go with an empty stomach…

For stays in the Leiria region, we recommend the Palace Hotel Monte Real – very likely the best hotel in the region.

Room Tip: Suites are very spacious. They easily accomodate this family of four (2 adults + 2 kids). We stayed at Suite 210.

I just stayed there this weekend and my experience couldn't have been better. The old building has been totally renovated, yet maintaining the old charm and traditional architecture. The room was very spacious, comfortable, quiet, which a huge balcony overlooking the surrounding woods. Very pitoresque.
The breakfast had an excellent variety, as it was expected of a 4 star hotel. I also had dinner at the hotel's restaurant and the food is to die for... Simple delicious! The service overall is great, both at the hotel and at the restaurant, due to the friendly staff.
But the crown jewel is the spa... The hot tub and the indoor pool, with the waterfall effect are great to relax, but if you really want to get rid of all that stress, try the float bed experience. It's really good.

This is a nice and well decorated hotel, with confortable and modern bedrooms.
However the cleanliness in the rooms and public areas were not very good and I could ear the noise from the corridors.
The breakfast was very complete, with a good variety of breads, cakes and juices. The lunches were also very good. The staff was very kind.
The hotel have parking included and the internet is free - wireless in the public areas and with cables in the room. The front desk has cables for internet to use in the bedrooms.
