Ten of us booked both properties at Le Cateau - Chez Celeste and Chez Henriette next door - for a week's tour of the Somme battlefields on old motorcycles. It was perfect for us in every way. Nine bedrooms (mostly twins), two kitchens, big dining room, lots of bathrooms and an enormous under cover outside courtyard area in which to park the bikes securely, sit round a table and have a couple of barbecues. At £1240 for the week, it was way cheaper than the cheapest B&B, plus we could cook for ourselves most days. The location for touring the Somme is excellent - the property is just metres from the site of the Hindenberg Line. Shops, bars and restaurants are three miles in either direction (Le Cateau, where there is a brilliant Matisse Museum, and Solesmes), but distance was not a problem. Our wonderful hosts, Louis and Joelle, who live on the premises, speak excellent English and are a fount of knowledge about the area, were happy to ferry us about if required - and joined us for a memorable dinner at a local brewery/brasserie on the last night. Good people, who respected our privacy at the same time as being super friendly and hospitable. The ONLY thing to bear in mind is that the accommodation is good, clean and well equipped but is not de luxe (slightly wonky showers etc.). For £124 each for a week it exceeded our expectations by a good measure, but please do not go expecting five star standards then moan on Trip Advisor. This is an ABSOLUTE bargain - and a really special place. Go with an open mind and you should love it.
