“Fantastic B+B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013

Have stayed here several times over the past few years when in the area. The rooms are always clean and comfortable and the breakfast is brilliant. ( there is also a fantastic Indian Restaurant within walking distance.) Holden House B+B is in a lovely peaceful and tranquil setting just off the M1. and good value for money. Angela and Barrie are also fantastic hosts.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but the ones at the side of the house give lovely views over the river.

Every year 3 of us stay at Holden House for a night prior to participating in a track day at Donington Park. This year we were welcomed by Barry and he could not have been more helpful and obliging. We needed to be up early to be at the circuit by 7.30am and Barry agreed to make us bacon rolls but we decided we could arrive a few minutes late and opted for an amazing full english breakfast which really set us up for the day!

As ever the bed was very comfortable and the setting beside the river is enchanting. It's a 5 minute drive from the M1 and I strongly recommend Holden House. Excellent!

Stayed for just one night. Such a warm welcome from Angie, served tea and cake. Lovely location. Walked along the canal to a couple of nearby pubs. Room was at the front and provided a great nights sleep. Walked down the stairs in the morning to the smell of bacon cooking. Fab cooked breakfast followed by a short trip across the road to a wonderful shop called Zing. Definitely would stay again.

Lovely location. The village of Shardlow is very pretty. Holden House nestled between the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey canal is very quaint, very good welcome and room was lovely. Got a history lesson about the village, house and area. Lots of good pubs to visit. Walk alomg the canal was lovely and husband got to help a barge through the lock, very cool. Much recommended.

We have just returned from a wonderful short stay with Angie, Barry & Monty, on our arrival we were welcomed with fresh coffee & warm homemade Bakewell tart. The room we stayed in was a good size with a large flat screen TV,Tea & Coffee, nice En-Suite, free Wi-FI & nice views of the river & surrounding countryside. Within a few minutes walk there is canal side pubs serving food and a good Indian Restaurant. When we are back in this area we will certainly be returning to Holden House.

We stay at Holden House every year and have done so for the past 4 years. Every time it is absolutely superb, beautifully clean and the warmest of welcomes from Angela, who cooks the most wonderful breakfast for us. We have stayed with our friends there too and they love it as well - always so pleasant and so pretty. The gardens are so beautiful right to the river bank. Nothing is too much trouble and once when we forgot our chairs, Angela lent us hers!! Unbelievably lovely lady and thank you for our 'home from home' each year - you are just great :)

Room Tip: We have the river facing room - very pretty
