“Mahalasa Temple”
Reviewed 2 December 2012

Lovely work of art....do stop by and visit! The five main 'Ganas' of the Goddess namely Grampurush, Bhagwati, Dadh, Simha Purush and Mhal Purush are also located within the same temple premises. Daily worship of all these deities is carried out before worshipping the main Goddess.

See the huge brass bell here, famous all over Goa, which does not have any ringer.

You can try out the simple but clean canteen run here.

“Shri Mahalsa Temple - very busy but worth a visit”
Reviewed 22 March 2012

Visited Shri Mahalasa during an afternoon tour of temples near Ponda. There are many and this is one of the most popular, with lots of Hindu worshippers throughout the day. A complete contrast to nearby Shri Naguesh, which was quiet and peaceful.
It's possible to take photos inside this temple, but only in the entrance chamber.

There are a several beautiful Hindu temples in the area around Ponda, so it's a worthwhile half-day tour to visit them if you hire a taxi. I had a local driver who was very helpful in suggesting which of them was best to visit. Here at Shri Mahalasa, he warned me of a well-known local guy who approaches you and starts telling you about the history of the temple. Not surprisingly, he's after money to give you a guided tour. You might feel this would be helpful, so that's up to you.

This is definitely worth including as part of a trip around the beautiful temples near Ponda.
