“Chilapata Wildlife Sanctuary - A Dense Forest”
Reviewed 1 December 2011

Chilapata Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the banks of River Torsa opposite to Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest is very dense and will definitely attract the Jungle Lovers, it is a must see destination if you are visiting the forest of Dooars. The range of thick vegetation with varied flora and fauna and the aura will definitely attract persons who love forests.
There is also some history attached to it where deep inside the forest, Local King's (Nal Raja) brother had stationed a secret garrison to fight the King of Bhutan. The place was abandoned after the both the kings entered into a friendship pact at Rajabathkawa. The ruins still remains. Legend had it that there still exist eight (currently seven one had died) trees who sap is red in colour and resemble the human blood. There is also remains of a Shiva Temple if any of the remains are taken outside harms falls on the person carrying them.
If you want to increase your chances of sightings of animals visit the place after December
Nearest Rail Station is Hasimara.
Airport is Bagdogra.
