Hostal del Castell de Gimenelles

A wonderful rural hotel located in Penedes wine area. The owner were very welcoming and helpful. Their recommendations for vineries to visit were excellent. The food was very good. It is very much a relaxing rural experience with friendly people and pets. Our room was beautiful and spotlessly clean.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Castell de Gimenelles, just wonderful!
Jordin and Mayte (owners) are very friendly and helpful.
The place is clean, everyday the rooms are cleaned.

Jordi offers a menu every night (26€) which is really worth it, he's a great cook!
They also sell regional products (oil, creams wine), all worth their price.

The location is perfect for people who would like to discover the surroundings of Barcelona:
We went to Poblet (monastery UNESCO heritage), Tarragona and Cambrils. You could go to Barcelona (1hour to city centre), or also to Montserrat.

I can highly recommend this place, we would have liked to stay longer.

One thing to mention: The place is hard to find, signalisation should be better. And without a car it is even worse. A car is almost a must.

My boyfriend and I just spent 3 wonderful days (2 nights) at this place. Where to start? the house and the surrounding lands are beautiful and peaceful.
Maite and her partner are warm, respectful, always ready to help, and go out of the way to make sure you feel welcome and pampered. One of my favorite things were the dinners in their small restaurant ... so good! much more relaxing and romantic that going out, and very good price/quality ratio. I highly recommend the food here.
You can also take nice strolls/hikes from the house and see the mountains, vineyards, shepherds + sheep.
p.s. Villafranca del Penedes is not worth visiting except for some of the museums. Go instead to the small villages or venture to Alt Camp and visit Santes Creus + Vila.rodona

You just don't find that storybook 280 year old renovated farmhouse on the Spanish vineyard grounds with the upstairs fireplace and the top rate chef just waiting to make what you'd like.......too often. Nope, you might find some of those features. This place has it all. Couple it with proximity to Barcelona, very reasonable prices, and friendly hosts....and dog.....and you have a very peaceful and relaxing stay. It is the Yin to Barna's Yang. Only wish my wife was here to enjoy it as well.

If you are able to stay here do yourself a favour and don't eat anything else for the day! We were treated with impeccable hospitality by our hosts, and enjoyed exceptional food at great value (25 euro!!!). All this in the restful surrounds of the picturesque northern Spanish vineyards. Possibly our highlight of Spain, and the rest of our time in Spain was also wonderful.

We only stayed one night here, but wished it were more. The rooms were comfortable, the hosts were wonderful, the dogs so cute (you'd better not be dog/cat phobic coming here, they have 4 dogs and 12? cats, though they're not allowed into the guest sections from what I can tell, but they're all over the public spaces), and last but not least, the food is fantastic. It's just so peaceful here (minus the occasional dog barking) with the warm breeze and the "getting away from it all" feeling that you get here. We had the one dinner here too, with fish (very good) and ribs (even better). I stuffed myself silly with the pork ribs.

What an absolutely wonderful stay. The care given to everything was top-notch. Jordi and Maeta are wonderful hosts and guides to food and wine of the region. Excellent visits at the local olive oil co-op and winery Jane Ventura. And the food was outstanding. Even though, we were the only guests for several nights, we got treated to options for our dinner. Definitely will make this a stop during our next trip to Spain.
