We were in a party of 6 staying for a weekend exploring the delights of North Yorkshire. Nearly all of us were of senior ages and quite discriminatory in our choice of accommodation. We were not disappointed in any way with the New Inn. A warm welcome from the delightful smiling Susan and in our standard room an even warmer welcome on a rather chilly day. Comfortable bed, adequate en suite with shower, free WiFi, television, and very clean. Very good and reasonably priced food available in the lovely beamed and stone walled dining area. We noticed that on both nights we were there( Friday and Saturday) their restaurant was full and after the diners had left a friendly crowd of local people gathered at the bar, where the hosts Susan and Andy held court serving good real ale from the hand-pumps. They have been there for nearly a year and it is very obvious they have put a tremendous amount of hard work into making a go of it and I think they are succeeding. Heartily recommended. During the weekend we had a brilliant trip on the North York moors railway going three quarters of the way up and getting off then walking back to the previous station along the valley-beautiful and easy.

The owners of this pub work incredibly hard. This is a family run business and the leasehold was acquired by the couple who are locals and wanted to make a go of it. They are certainly well on their way to making it a fabulous place to stay. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed and the staff (especially Kirsty) were so polite, helpful and happy. People should remember before writing reviews that not all properties are freeholds and, therefore, it's especially hard to plough money into a place when you will get very little financial reward back. You wouldn't know the owners didn't own this pub outright by the effort they put into making your stay a pleasant one. The menu is varied and the lemon posset was amazing. Breakfasts are very good too. Definitely worth a stay.

Room Tip: You might want to request a courtyard room if you are sensitive to noise as there is a road nearby

Visiting Thornton-le-Dale two or three times a year from Lancashire we never consider our holiday has really started until we have our first evening meal here. Thankfully we managed to grab the last table in the bar/dining area (the restaurant was already full with an all-age large party). Despite the rush, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly and efficient staff and management - and it gave me all the more time to sample a couple of the real ale selection. After a long drive we both fancied a waist bursting stew and dumplings from the basically British menu and apart from that strange UK tendency to serve bright green peas with as many selections as possible it was just what the doctor ordered. One came with mash, the other with chips. Prices are sensible and there's no pressure to add starters and desserts if you don't want them. Wine is available by the by the bottle or glass and there's a healthy mix of locals and visitors.

We stayed at The New Inn for 4 nights in March. It's a lovely old pub, full of character and very cosy with open fire in the bar. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Our room was very large and the bed was nice and comfy. It was spotlessly clean although the bathroom could probably do with a bit of updating. Breakfast was great and so was the food in the restaurant in the evenings. (We ate there every night). Excellent value for money - we would be more than happy to return for another stay or recommend to friends.Thornton le Dale is a beautiful village and in a perfect location for visiting the North York Moors, Whitby, etc.

We spent a few days in the holiday cottage that is part of The New Inn and had a wonderful time. The cottage itself is lovely and cosy with all of the amenities you could need. The food at The New Inn is fantastic, the bar is well stocked and very welcoming with it's open wood fire, and the service is brilliant. The village itself is beautiful with plenty to see walking around, and Whitby is only a short drive away which is a great family day out.
