“Wonderful Wildlife and Relaxation in Pantenal”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

My husband and I just spent three wonderful days and nights at Baia Grande and had a simply fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by our guide, Marcello, it was like a weight was lifted from our shoulders and we could relax and enjoy this beautiful landscape without worrying about a thing. They fed us three delicious, interesting meals each day with local and inventive dishes, they took us out for safaris, horse back riding, fishing and night safaris, which were all very interesting and enjoyable experiences. Between safaris, we had a lot of down time to lay by the pool, swing in our hammocks, or wander around the property trying to get pictures of the many different types of birds that hung around. We felt like the whole property was our home and very comfortable wandering around. We liked the honor bar system for drinks. It is nice to be able to grab yourself a beer in the evening without bothering anyone about it. Our guide, Marcello, was extremely accommodating and we greatly enjoyed getting to know him. He is highly educated and speaks very good English, which was nice for us since we don't know any Portuguese..he really made it a great experience for us. These several days were likely the most enjoyable we have spent since we arrived in South America over a month ago. We highly reccommend a visit!

Room Tip: Rooms are large and clean with A/C and ceiling fan, bathrooms and showers are very nice. We imagine...

Fantastic experience on this Fazenda - seeing a working cattle farm in action - a great ecotourism / agri-tourism experience. Some amazing birdlife, but animals were bit more challenging to see (although we did see a giant anteater - an infrequent occurence on the fazenda).

Alex manages the Pousada on the Fazenda, and was always helpful - and a great horse riding guide as well! Marcelle is a very experienced guide - excellent knowledge of birds and really good field knowledge. Accommodation was comfortable, fairly basic. Some excellent home cooked fazenda meals. Relaxing ambience to the Pousada - and the general facilities provided good opportunities to relax between the various activities.

The Fazenda is on the southern edge of the Pantanal region, and is more dry than the main Pantanal. An excellent stopover point, a really good introduction to the region - now for the Pantanal "main course" sometime in the future.

Be prepared for the mosquitoes - but the Fazenda is definitely worth the suffering!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a hammock.

We spent one night and two great days in Fazenda Baia Grande last year. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. April is considered low season (wet) and we were the only guests in the place. And we were treated accordingly - the owner was very flexible and patient in organizing the trips for us (two tours per day are included in the price of accommodation, which makes the price really worth the experience, especially if you are traveling with a family).
The food (fruit for breakfast, beef for lunch / dinner) was delicious and a plenty. The capirinhas in the evening were fantastic, just like you would expect them to be. The place is amazing, the atmosphere fantastic, you feel like at the end of the world, with toucans and macaws flying over your heads and stunning view around (go to the field or to the observatory to watch the sunset and sunrise). The tours are great - we met lots of capibaras, caymans, armadillos, vultures, owls, an anteater, Remember to take the piranha fishing tour - with cayman hunting the piranhas it is a lot of fun :) Night tour is amazing as well.
And last but not least - the swimming pool to refresh yourself and have fun between the safaris.

We stayed at the Fazenda for 3 nights in September. We really enjoyed our stay there. During the excursions we saw lots of animals: cayman, capibarra, emu, parrots, ant eaters, armedillo). Most days we had 3 excursions. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were always very good and tasteful and served in the dining area from where you have beautiful views of the surrounding fields. Our guide Adriano was very knowlegdeable, but does not speak English. For us it did not matter too much, but if you insist on an English guide, make sure you check that one is available before booking. I would say that 2 days-3 nigths is normally enough to see everything. Overall a great experience and I can only recommend staying there for a couple of days.

We really enjoyed Baia Grande. The friendly welcome by Alex the owner, the visits around the Fazenda with the peão Adriano who is so enthousiastic about the place and the animals he shows us, the excellent food and the quiet environment, where we really feel like house guests and not just tourists
No doubt we recommend and we would like to go back for another stay !

We were on the Fazenda in Nov. 2012 and enjojed the whole time.
Alex, the owner of the Fazenda and Adriano, the Guide leaded us to their places in the nature.
Alex explained everything very detailled and gave us a good view about nature, the pantanal and their life on the farm.
The big room was clean with a big bathroom and aircondition.
There was a double-entrance to avoid the mosquitos entering the room.
We also had funny evenings with Caipirinhas made by Alex (speaks english)
Meals are served in an open room. Hot food is kept hot by a fire below. really nice.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - everything was delitious and typcal.

Special place where you see lots of wild animals. The people who are working there are kind and helpfull people. The rooms are air conditioned and fine, allthough you will not spend much time there. Breakfast, lunch and diner are good like all food in Brasil
