Our first impressions of the hotel were good, we were impressed with the olde worlde look of the castle, however this is where it ended. The room smelt of damp, probably because of the large damp patch in the bathroom. Wifi was not available in the rooms furthest from reception and the phones on the second floor didn't work :S
We also used the spa, however I found it to be in need of a good clean as everything seemed a bit grimy.
The breakfast was ok, nothing special.
It's a good place to explore the surrounding villages but that's about it...

The spa and pools are not available during the week. These are open only 16:00-21:00 on weekend. The hotel is located in the old palace but don't expect palace rooms )) these are very normal hotel rooms. We stayed in similar place (15 century palace) in south Italy - that was really like in a palace.
Wifi is slow and does not work in rooms, we had to go to lobby to get internet service.
Hotel's restaurant is so-so, food and service both
Location is inconvenient - just to get to nearest big road 20 mins. Mengibar itself does not offer much.
The only reasin to go there is to stay in spa on weekend. That is if the spa worth it as we were not able to try (((

this was defianlty a rare find with tranquil settings and spotless rooms the breakfast being coffee, toast and orange juice which was enough for us we used the hotel as a base to visit south spain from Granada to Yeste which there is plenty of historic sites to see. the room and staff can not be faulted as they could not assist enough it has its own private car park. I would highly recommend someone wanting to visit the true spain :)

A very comfortable, modern hotel in an ancient setting of an old castle. Good parking and close to main north/south routes. Typical old Spanish town with little going on of interest but situation of castle makes up for it.

There a no words to describe this amazing unique medieval castle turned into an enchanted hotel in the middle of Andalucia. A magical place for relaxation, getaway, medieval rooms decorated in brute stone floors and walls. Confiters and extra large quality beds. Private terrace to the middle age castle's patio. Outstanding customer service and definitely a place from now on to stay while in Spain. I have't slept that well in months. The rooms are impecable clean, and the location.... in the middle of nowhere.....

We only stayed here for one night during our trip through Andalucia, but we were very impressed by this lovely and luxury hotel. Would've loved to stay a few days longer. It's a real 'Palace' indeed. The owners clearly did not cut their expenses when renovating. Mengibar is a small town so when you stay here for some more time you will need a car to explore the surroundings

The hotel was easy to find, great situation in the centre of town, with parking, perfect for a stop between Madrid and the south. Nice breakfast, friendly staff, comfortable beds... we will no doubt return! The palace is really gorgeous. Mengibar is not really a destination, just a convenient little town off the motorway, but there are several bars where you can eat reasonably. It tells you quite clearly on the website that the spa is only open at weekends and there are plenty of places to eat nearby, so anybody who books midweek and then gripes must be daft!
However, the spa did seem a bit abandoned, so I wouldn't recommend it as a spa holiday. It could easily be improved with some better lighting and decoration, some music, a couple of repairs and something to remove the smell of damp, or hide it with some perfume! And why limit the time to 1 hour if there is nobody else there and the facilities are turned on?
