We loved staying at Ringstad, both Ian and Ann Karina were incredibly hospitable and helpful. The steak that Ann Karina cooked for us was absolutely delicious and so tender. The location was magic too and we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights thanks entirely to Ian, who very kindly knocked on our door one night to alert us. The accommodation itself was very cosy, with lots of heaters and masses of space. The bunk beds are not designed for a couple so sleeping was not wildly comfortable but there was always the option of having a bunk bed each, so the fact we decided to share, is down to us. One v. slight niggle would be the kitchen, a bit of a spruce between each visit might be an idea but other than that, we couldn't fault it.

Ian and Ann Karina you both made our visit to the beautiful Vesteralen a big success. As you both know, we had the worst weather in years, but thanks to your hospitality and making every effort to make these days to a success for us, we will come back. The food and views are spectacular. Gladly on our final days, the weather got much better and we could do the eagle safari. Very impressive and a must do. In the evening after again a great meal, we saw the northern lights. Ian brought us to the best place to make photo's and he helped us to set the camera's. You can also make beautiful hiking trips which will be arranged by Ian. So if you want to visit the Vesteralen and experience hospitality and beautiful sights go here.

Again thanks for all your hospitality and we will be back!!

Room Tip: The apartments are great with a view to the sea and mountains, but all locations here are great.

We had an excellent day with Ian on a sea eagle safari. He gave a thorough explanation of what we would be doing in order to maximise our understanding and enjoyment of the sea eagles. He has a lot of knowledge of the eagles, their habits and ecology. As there were two photographers on our trip, he advised on the best way to take photos and really impressed us with his technical knowledge. He uses their natural behaviour to enable us to get close enough for good photography. The trip itself was spectacular, with lots of sightings of the eagles, including some close-ups, and surrounded by stunning scenery. The weather was beautiful and the sea was like glass, even in February! To finish off, we had delicious homemade fish soup in the restaurant, just what was needed to warm up! A highly recommended trip. We will be back to follow the full photography course.

Beautiful location, excellent hosts and service and surrounded by wildlife. This really is a fantastic place to stay, with wonderful authentic Norwegian food, cosy warm rooms and overall great service. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay and discover Northern Norway at anytime of year.

A big surprise in the middle of nowhere. We really liked the reindeer goulash although it was Not on the menu but a very good advice given by the excellent waiter.
The Cod was a good choice with a surprise of bacon underneath.
As a dessert we had the home made apple pie with ice cream (who doesn't like ice cream)
The coffee was good and could be refilled as much as we liked, and we liked it much.
Thanks for a very nice meal and a warm welcome.

March 2013, we've just had a more than wonderful trip to Ringstad Sjohus in Vesteralen. It is a beautiful remote location to stay, cosy and clean accommodation, good food, but it was the friendly and warm atmosphere and Ian and Karina's devotion to make their guests happy which made our stay really memorable.
Because of the lack of snow as well as the rapidly changing weather conditions Ian did an outstanding job making an alternative program in which we've done and seen even more! Ian shared his extensive photographic knowledge before, during and after the photography course and took us by car and boat to stunning locations. We saw eagles, fishing villages, art, northern lights etc. and hat a lot of fun together.
We would love to come back!
