“Great grounds, poor rooms”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

I've stayed several times in the Santosa and I'm not the one to write bad reviews, but unfortunately I will not be able to recommend this hotel anymore unless you have the money to choose from one of the more expensive rooms.
This was the second time I've stayed in the superior room and whilst I wasn't overwhelmed by the room the last time, I was content, but this time the room we've stayed was old, worn down and smelly. I totally didn't enjoy our stay, the whole room smelled like stale sewer and everywhere you look you feel like it needs to be renovated.
We mentioned the smell when we checked in and the staff did came and sprayed the room, but unfortunately this only lasted for a bit.
The balcony is also worn down. The wood is broken and the view is on a serre covered with cigarette buds and empty packages.

The Santosa has great grounds, a beautiful pool, nice staff, good choice of breakfast, but unless you stay in a deluxe room or private villa I think it's not worth the money.

We checked in late evening in Terrace Room (room 1108). The room was filthy. Marked 3 meters long on the floor, marked on the wall from AC water leakage, the sink was moldy black, dursty skirting, stain on ceiling from leaked water.          Asked to move another room. Gave us room on second floor. The noise from hot water tank and AC those were located beside entrance room door can be heard from inside the room even with fully closed door. Asked for upgrade, was told will cost 900,000 rupiah. They showed us the cottage room. The upgrade cost 300,000 rupiah. The room was fine but the venetian blind unoperational (broken handle). No privacy at all. Visible from outside room.
When asked to cancel the booking, the reception said that they will charge us one night accommodation. We were not happy with the room standard for four stars hotel.  Two housekeeping staff covered the venetian blind with bed sheets. The reception said that he will not charge the upgrade cost. It's not merely about the cost. It's more to customer satisfaction. He sound has no empathy with the problem.Definitely think twice to stay in this hotel again in the future.

I stayed in The Santosa Villas & Resort between 9th - 12th of April 2014 for a business trip. I spent one night in the cottage room 1086 which located quite far apart from the main lobby building, the room interior looked old/antique but clean and tidy, I dislike the smell though. The pathways were quite dark at night. On the 2nd day I moved to the tower complex in room 1207. The building areas were also mostly dark at night. Wifi was quite slow. The good sides are the beach views! The views are amazing!

Room Tip: the cottages can be quite far apart, if you prefer, request a room that's not too far away from...

This is a great location (or either Sheraton next door) although the rooms are a bit of a walk to the main pool. Rooms clean, aircon works a treat, refridgerator a little loud. The wifi is dreadful - it logs you out every one and half min or less! Very frustrating. There are a couple of nice restaurants out the front - The Square and The Tamaran. Staff helpful. The hawkers on the beach can be a bit of a nuisance, they just don't give up. Best not even to make eye contact.

Room Tip: Try get closer to the pool as it's a bit of a walk

Already at the check in we felt relaxing more and more as the whole hotel was designed with lots of space to breath. The swimming pool is very large and there is enough room for everyone to find tranquility to relax. Since the beach just outside is quite busy, we enjoyed having the pool very much.

We were booked in to a villa with private pool which was outstanding. We found everything very clean and the staff was very helpful at all times. It was our oasis in the otherwise quite busy town.

Room Tip: If you can, try to get a villa with private pool.

We were very disappointed with this resort on a number of levels and it started poorly when our room was not ready when we arrived around 3:30pm. The resort looked deserted (and still is) yet they claim they did not have a room even though it was after checkin time. Another traveller had the same experience.

The staff were friendly on arrival and the iced tea was refreshing.

The rooms are also very disappointing. They have not had a thorough clean in a long while. There was soap scum left around the top of the shower. Layers of dirt and dust behind the sliding doors. The bed creaks with every movement and the mattress very hard. The sheets were clean.

The resort is in an ideal location but they have not spent any money on maintenance. It is run down yet they are building new extensions. Perhaps that's where all the money is going. I will post photos of the items mentioned above.

The best way to demonstrate my opinion of the place is: I won't come back.

We spent 5 nights at the Santosa Resort, upon arrival the staff were very Friendly and helpful, we were given a room upgrade and located well away from the room renovations that currently are underway.
The Pool is a fantastic place to relax, breakfast was slightly limited but we both ate well and enjoyed the food on selection.
Would have no hesitation in staying here again and it can only become a better once the room renovations are completed.
