“Visit to Lombok”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

We recently visited Lombok for the first time, and were booked into the Santosa Resort. We then were given some negative feed back and were a little concerned, but went ahead with the reservation anyway. On arrival, we found the place acceptable...it is on the beach, pool area is fantastic...slow service around pool area, however only have to ask, and whatever one asks is dealt with. Great area for breakfast, also the restaurant overlooking beach was a great place for dinner. While the rooms are "tired"and possibly in need of renovations, ours was clean and comfortable. The cost was acceptable, location great, and we had no issues with service. While we may choose never to return to Lombok, would stay at same resort should we go back.

Room Tip: We were upstairs in superior room...guess as the hotel appears to be trying to do some renovations...

On arrival we were a little disappointed with the check-in, there didn’t seem to be much of a system happening and quite a few people arrived to book in at the same time, nothing seemed organised and even though the staff were all very polite they didn’t really seem to be very organised. The book-in was a lot more drawn out than it should have been. Once we had booked in we were left to our own to try and find our room with just a point of direction (which ended up being the wrong direction!) we ended up back at reception and had to ask for someone to show us to our room. Once we finally arrived at our room, the first thing we noticed was that we had booked twin beds and there was just one large queen bed! After the delay in booking in we decided just to put up with the one bed (and we were later told by another couple of girls that we met that the same had happened to them and they were just told that they didn’t have any rooms with twin beds available!) The room was clean, the bathroom huge with a great shower, the only thing I could fault would be the view from our balcony which was just overgrown ferns, great if you wanted privacy but it would have been nice to be able to enjoy the gardens.
The location of the resort is great, with just a short walk to restaurants etc. The pool was clean and the pool staff were very friendly but not overly attentive. The room service was prompt, but the deserts that we ordered where not very nice and I think we left most of it. Breakfast was average. We had a problem with our in room safe box not closing and we had to call 3 or 4 times before anybody came to look at it, once we got them to the room it was fixed promptly (so just keep calling them until they come!)
A nice resort and well-priced but wouldn’t stay again, I think there is better value resorts in the same area.

I stay just only one day at Santosa, the hotel very huge but note huge about the facilities and hospitality. In our room, the bath room so dirty and no have many accecories in there. Other things is the hotel often shutdown by itself for the light and electricity. But overall ya okay lah...

We had our doubts with regards to this resort from previous reviews, and after being taken to our resort room room up in the back corner of this huge resort we unfortunately have to say, this hotel needs to step up their game. We entered the room which had a really repugnant smell and the wood blinds had never been dusted and had many broken slats. Ok we thought we are only here for two nights, after going for a walk and coming back I decided I could not tolerate the smell in the room. I approached reception to ask if we could be moved to another room however was told none available and that no one eel had complained about the musty smell. I asked what other room available and was offered a suite room, which after viewing decided to take as a lovely room nice and close to all the beautiful amenities. We can't complain about the service as there was none. Have never stayed at a resort before that did not have staff approach you at lunchtime and happy hour around the pool to take an order. All in all a very disappointing stay at a tired hotel.

I went for a department trip last week with around 30+ collegues. The hotel was picked out by our organizer. I was assigned to a Deluxe Cottage with 2 other friends. Overall, it was okay for the price that we paid. It was a little bit tired but still have its own charm.

Pros:
- Well maintained landscape
- Great swimming pool
- Great breakfast spead. A lot of variety and tastes good.
- Wifi service is fast and reliable - more importantly its complimentary.
- Polite and friendly dtaff

Cons:
-Deluxe cottage room esp at ground floor are infested with a lot of Mosquitos even when we closed the sliding door.
- Bathroom drainage needs to be looked at since it produced an uncomfortable smell.
- Slow housekeeping. Clearly stated an extra bed in the booking. When we arrived there's no extra bed. Called the housekeeping and it took them ONE HOUR to deliver the extra bed. Same goes for ironing board and hair dryer.
- Signs to room can be easily missed as this resort is huge. We got lost couple of times trying to search for our room on the first night.

As I said earlier, it is above average but not the best. It surely provide a basic and comfortable stay to you.

Room Tip: Dont go for a Deluxe Cottage. If you do so, request for second floor. Higher floor means less mosqui...

I co-organized a department trip for approximately 40 pax recently.
1) Hotel was clean but maintenance was inconsistent
- the villa was better than the cottage and the cottage was better than the terrace rooms
- the toilet could use some upgrading: the seat looked worn and while the design of the shower was interesting, draining was not efficient so there was a musty smell
2) Staff was very polite and helpful; however they were a bit slow during check-in (the no of rooms was initially different from that in the invoice but it was sorted out)
3) The hotel does not have its own stretch of beach but the beach is very accessible
4) Many of the town's attractions are within walking distance: there's a mart next door, a good restaurant across (the Square), various massage centers and a clinic nearby
5) The ambiance and landscaping was great
6) The pool is open 24 hrs a day - no towel/staff after 8pm tho but this isn't a problem. The pool is quite big and I enjoyed my dip.
7) Hotel breakfast spread is decent. We had lunch and dinner in the hotel; while the menu didn't have much variety in terms of local food, the quality was fair. Room service was quick.
8) WiFi is provided free but signal was limited to poor in some of the rooms.
9) I did not manage to try the full spa treatment but we did get a 10 min session for free and it was really good. The technique used was quite different from other massage styles that I've tried so it was a refreshing experience. However the spa was basically converted terrace rooms so the ambiance was lacking.

We communicated with Bapa Yono and he was very professional in arranging the accommodation via email.

All in all, I got good feedback from my colleagues and I don't mind coming back to Santosa again.

We were looking forward to our superior room in a luxurious resort. We were positioned on the fourth floor, furthest room from the resort (albeit a very tired room at that) on a 10 day R and R! Mind you we are fitter for the experience!
By the way the balcony looked over the backyards of the shops on the Senggigi Road. We asked to upgrade and was told it wasn't possible. We had no safe until they carried one in (I hope you see the irony in that), plumbing leaks in the bathroom from the toilet, a shower without support for the hand- held shower head (fixed when requested), beds left in corridors for days, etc etc.
With an ounce of perspective we enjoyed the lush well kept grounds, the pool, the consistency of breakfast, happy hour, the bars and the friendly staff.
Whatever the financial tension the hotel chain and the tax department has (if local rumour holds some truth) it needs addressing for the sake of disheartening more tourists.
