“quaint and cozy restaurant with tasty options”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2013

My partner and I attended a dinner party at the Red Lion Inn, and thought that it was a very quaint and charming restaurant with tasty food.

We were presented with a paper menu, and from all the menus from days past in the foyer, I assume that the choices change regularly as ingredients become available or not. I included a picture of the menu here, and there are some standard choices. I personally had the quail eggs for appetizer, the chicken terrine for starter, and the Lincolnshire sausages as a main. I thought the sausages were absolutely great and cooked very well. Because we are not from this area, I can't say whether this is "typical" British food or not, or whether this is food that is commonly served around here.

The service was fine and friendly, and they paid attention to our party. The restaurant itself is rather small and intimate, with a bar area and then a few seating places. We were in the back where there is a large open area, but I don't know whether that is only for private events or if it sometimes has tables there when there are no events there. The vibe definitely is cozy here. I'd recommend it for the quaintness...as well as the fact that there aren't many other quality options located nearby.

“Great food and great atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

We found this place by chance on the Internet. We ate in the bar by the fire and enjoyed a proper pub atmosphere. The food was excellent and the set menu was really good value. The cheese course we had was huge. I don't think I could have finished 6 cheeses as 3 was enough. A real pub doing great food with an innovative edge not a restaurant pretending to be a pub.

“Poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

I visited this pub for lunch on Easter bank holiday along with my wife and youngest son after viewing the Olive Branch web site. Its about 25 minutes away from where we live and although the food was good, it was no better than pubs nearer to where we live with less acclaimed credentials

That said we were happy with our meal. The main problem was the chaotic service. Upon arrival we were handed the menus in the bar, given rough directions to our table and left to make our own way there.

We asked for our sons main course to be brought out at the same time as our starters and had to enquire when it was coming as we were finishing our first course.

We asked for more drinks & these took an age to arrive so resorted to going to the bar ourselves for the final round

The time taken for each food course to arrive was too long

“Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2013

This is by far one of the best food pubs we have ever visited. The service, warm open fire, glorious food and cosy ambiance is fantastic. it is a must if you are are visiting the area, but be warned book early and do not drive, the wines are great.

“Warm welcome on a cold day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2013

On yet another bad weather day we decided we needed somewhere warming to cheer us up; we were not disappointed.

The Red Lion manages to balance "pub" and "restaurant" admirably. We started in the bar on a cosy settee in front of a log fire drinking a fine guest beer. Then moved to our table where we started with their speciality warm bread.

The mushroom risotto was excellent, as were the Lincolnshire sausages - from a named farm. It was simple and beautifully cooked. We had pannetone pudding with an egg custard sauce; light and tasty.

Service was pleasant and efficient.

All in all an great experience.
