“A week in the Vercors this time”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

This is the 2nd time I'd stayed at Velovercors, but the last time was only on the first and last day of my trip.

Easy to get to, either by train or in my case, as I had a bike box, a hire car from Lyon airport.

As usual he welcome from Teresa & Roger was very welcoming and we stayed in the same gite as last year.

We had a superb meal on the first night with the other guests and of course our hosts. All the other guests bar one, had previously stayed at Velo Vercors, so they must be doing something right.

A great weeks cycling all around the Vercors region, on routes that Roger has ridden, some easy, some challenging, but always on quiet roads.

Having a Garmin is helpful, and Roger has the routes available to download onto your Garmin.

We'd also arranged for Roger to take us to ride Mount Ventoux on the last day of our holiday, what a day, great weather, a great climb and a great way to finish off our week.

Downsides? Only that St Jean en Royan is very limited for eating out places in out of season months.

Roger & Teresa were wonderful hosts. Teresa is a wonderful cook. At the end of a hard day's riding we looked forward to the delicious and generous food and wine supplied in their atmospheric outdoor eating area. The beds were very comfortable, ensuring a good nights sleep. It was great that Roger was able to take us on rides that matched our abilities. His knowledge of the local area and best climbs was a huge benefit. I cannot commend Velo Vecors highly enough.

I hadn't originally planned to come on this holiday but was organising it for my husband and sons to have a week of cycling. But it looked so inviting I decided to join them. And from the start, Teresa was so encouraging, giving me lots of ideas of what to do in the area. I'm so glad I tagged along. We all had a fabulous week. Roger was so helpful and informative about rides - and even came out to collect my 15 year old when he had a broken spoke. The gite we rented was very comfortable, and we loved the communal lounge. The cycling was fantastic, according to the boys. Nothing like you can experience in the UK with climbs that size. I even loved my gentle rides to the monastery and lake. Can't recommend the place highly enough.

Travelling in a group demands so much from the hosts and Roger and Teresa are exceptional on every front. They provide the ambience of welcome and the long table of hospitality. They provide conversation that illustrates the love of the Vecors and they compliment that with a willingness to open the secrets of the region. They provide the opportunity to make a ride day a chance to engage with an Abbey or to have a lazy meal with a welsh rock climber. They provide a support to a cycling group that embraces all the qualities of people that understand the significance of being engaged with good people on your travels.

We are a family of four, with two girls aged 10 and 12. Just come back from a week's holiday with Roger and Teresa, at Velo Vercors. Stunning countryside and a wide range of cycle routes, ranging from short fairly flat rides to all day trips with some challenging climbs. One of our best holidays. We would thoroughly recommend this holiday.

Velo Vercors is a great choice for a family cycling trip. We have 2 older teenage sons who are keen cyclists and were able to go off independently or on rides with the owner Roger. Parents can select a range of other cycle rides with fantastic views, nice cafes. Velo Vercors is a great location with comfortable accommodation ( we booked the 2 B and B rooms ). They have a lovely open plan area where you can sit and meet the other guests or read quietly. As a B and B guest you can also use this area for preparing a bit of lunch or a snack. Roger and Teresa are great hosts and very helpful in organising anything you want to do. They really know the local region well and provide you with cycling route maps and directions. We liked the fact that we could walk in to the town of St Jean ( 10 minutes ) and have a meal or buy a few provisions. You can even have a massage after a hard days cycling - a real treat.

Booked after reading Tripadvisor reviews. Couldn't have chosen better venue for a weeks riding. Brilliant hosts, comfortable accommodation, cycles perfect for our requirements and cycle routes for all abilities. We are a couple in our early 60's of reasonable fitness & the routes that Roger planned for us, both the alpine climbs & country routes were great. The long up hill slogs were well worth it for the adrenalin filled downhill buzz. Although we had a few days of cold & wet weather there was enough small villages nearby to keep us busy. Lots of iconic climbs nearby. (We drove to Mt Ventoux one day. Unfortunately it was closed by snow.)
Hope to return again soon.
