I had the opportunity to visit Twins Cellar in April and was honoured to be there when they opened one of my colleague's Qvevri wines. They are doing a great job of preserving Georgian wine culture and allow guests to take part. It is in a lovely and rustic location, they have a museum and offer wonderful hospitality. A must visit if you are on a wine tour in the Kakheti region

We spent the evning on the terrave, overlooking the grapes and drinking wine. the children ran around without bathering anyone.

The owners do not speak english and ask a very high price for there dinner. Which makes the price just as high as a top end stay in the Schumann chateau. The price calculation was not transparant at all,we strongly felt that we were ript off. When we tried to say something about this, the female owner start shouting and acting like a child. If you compare the price to the service you get I do not recommend staying here. Even the wine is being served in ordinary glasses instead of a wine glass.

The hosts were nice and we got a brief tour of the winery and demonstration of chacha distillation. Dinner was a Georgian feast with plenty of wine and chacha. Unfortunately there was an electric power failure in the morning of our stay rendering all showers useless. Although the rooms seem to be have been newly renovated there is definitely room for improvement and Western standard is still out of reach. The shower was an integrated part of the bathroom. Free WiFi with spotty coverage

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony

I was not sure where we were going to stay in the Khaketi wine region at the beginning of our Georgian adventure with so many interesting options (per my TripAdvisor research). I was leaning towards a chateau, but, upon arrival, the car-rental manager highly recommended this place - which I had already put on my short list - so we opted for it.

We arrived late, around 9 p.m. and it was a stressful day of longer-than-expected driving and missed directions etc. The manager, Guja (SP?), was very interactive but only spoke Russian (and of course Georgian). The nephew of the Twin Brothers, Beka, was on hand to help with guests in English. We joined with two other traveling pairs for a tasty party-dinner. It was a blast and already a trip highlight!

Normally, I wait to write these reviews until after a trip so as to have plenty of time to reflect and compare with other experiences overall. However, I was bothered by the fact that, at check-out, we were charged 70 GEL (for two people) for our dinner. This was nearly equal the cost of our room, and ultimately made the cost of our stay almost the same as it would have been at one of the top-ranked chateaus in the region (Shuchmann includes dinner in their price). We were never told or warned of the charges, and, in fact, we have found that it is quite common to be charged for things without advance notice nor any way to confer if the charge is accurate or tourist-priced. Before paying in cash, I told the lady - in Russian - about my unpleasant surprise - in a polite way - and simply intended to alert her, for future reference, that this should be called out to guests. I was not given an answer, and she only yelled for the manager and this did not lead to any further discussion or resolution. It basically fell on deaf ears. We had no problem paying for our amazing experience, but the customer service fail left me with a bitter taste at the end of what was a really nice time.

Likes: Value (80 GEL for double room, #2, with a view); Setting: nice vineyard; modern amenities particularly considering the price; smorgasbord dinner.

Dislikes: pricing scheme; customer interaction/service.

Room Tip: Rooms 1, 2 and 3 are on the second floor and have balconies facing the vineyard and mountains.

We visited Twins Old Cellar winery on 2th May and spent there one night.
In my opinion Alzani valley is the most beautiful area of Georgia, with a view on green fields followed by Caucasus main ridge with white snowy mountains.
The winery itself look like I had imagined Georgian winery before I came to the country. Winery facilities are made of brick, wood and clay, and are very well maintained. We had room number 1 with a balcony with the view on vineyard and the mountains. Room facilities are just fine, even with a/c, nothing to be desired more. In the evening we had a great dinner with local cousine and as much wine as we could handle. In the same time some Georgians from local community had their supra, and we had opportunity to listen to traditional songs. Its was a great experience and taking into consideration that nothing was arranged, it is hard to believe that ordinary people are so good song performers. All the time winery manager was on the place taking care of us. We really had a feeling being guests of that family for a while.

As far as the location is concerned the place is lovely and there is nothing to complain about. When you go out from the room you enter the world of miracle. Winery, kvevri so big that it looks almost impossible to exist. The sun is shining, you hear birds singing and sheep calling:). The rooms are quite satisfactory- you are in a village after all. But what we didn't like most of all was breakfast. We were 10 people and what we got was only bread, small amount of butter, cheese and white cheese with honey. No vegetables- it's a country for god's sake! It was poor and there was nothing that looked like Georgian hospitality...

Room Tip: Room nr 2 has got a great view- you will get a balcony. Nr 7 is quite small.
