“Nice Stay”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

Stayed at Sand Sea April 2014 for two nights.
Nice hotel on the west side of Railay. We caught a long boat from Krabi who took us straight to the west side. We stayed in a new room which was spacious, beautiful and modern. The breakfast was very average.
The service was good. There are kayak and paddle boards available to rent.
Lots of young families with their kids hanging by the pool.

this is the 2nd time for us to stay here.. we stayed 3 nights in the new building. the room looks modern better than the old cottage one.
Pros: The location is very impressive since it's on the west Railay which is very peaceful and has the beach to lay down in the evening.
- The room of new building is great. especially we got 2nd floor which is more private than the first floor. when people walked pass, they cannot see inside the room.

Cons: The maid is not professional.. she always forgot to refill the bath foam, coffee and other things that were used.
STAFF need to be improved. 3 staffs at the counter for getting the breakfast coupon actually did nothing. They didn't even pay attention to clean the table. One morning, i can count at least 4 dirty tables were not be cleaned, while they were talking at the coupon counter.
- Furthermore, once i asked one staff where can i get the beach towel,, she didnt know what the beach towel is. And talked with her friends for a while then she said i can asked about this thing from the lobby.
- Too many flies at the restaurant.

Room Tip: - 2nd floor is better for stay privately. - in the street walk, there was a shop selling kind of wr...

This is our second visit to Sand Sea, the first one was a year ago(it was superb) but i didnt write it on trip advisor...It is a really nice hotel(especially if you stay in the new building), good location, great view from the beach right infront of the hotel..just lay down relax, let the cool breeze flow to your face...i'm not much a drinker but i'm sure some of the guests will find it hard when there is "NO ALCOHOL" beverages are allowed in the hotel area but overall is perfect...Just an advice of service improvement for the front desk and waitress/es in the restaurant...

- Front Desk; the service went down since our last visit, there are new faces in the receptionist which not quite friendly..there are times when they ignore u eventhou you are right infront of them...It would be great if you could put your full attention to guests instead of chatting with your colleagues while your guests standing right infront of you (there were couple guests next to me on that time as well and having the same experience)

- Waitress/es: You could welcome your guests with "Wai" as this is what Thailand's culture..there were 3 waitresses when we had breakfast and none of them "wai" to us plus no smile and didnt even bother to take our breakfast coupons..just like front desk staffs, the service went down since our last visit and lots of new faces...would be great to pay attention to your job as there were lots of dirty plates laying around during breakfast but instead of clearing them up for the next guests, those waitress/es were chatting to each other...doesn't look good....

I will come back again for the next visit...Not because of the services...but more because of the location...location is the best in railay....

Previously stayed at Sunrise Tropical and we were very satisfied with it. This time we have decided that we would like to be on the western side and the best value for money offer was from Sand Sea. We were not disappointed at all and we would most probably return to it when we visit Railay again. Andplease, don't visit Thailand without including a stay at Railay. It surely must be in the Top Ten most beautiful beaches in the world!
Great looking, neat and spacious bungalows with proper A/C made for a welcoming change after 5 days on Phi Phi Island without. Two excellent swimming pools: in my opinion the best in Railay except perhaps for the main one at Ryavadee. Comfortable sun loungers with a wonderful view overlooking the beach. Enjoy sunset from one of them with a cold one in your hand.
Food in the restaurant not up to scratch. We have enjoyed most of our dinners at an obscure hidden restaurant called The Mangrove. Very good food at a very affordable price.
Be warned: Mattresses were very firm!
We would be back soon!

Room Tip: The closer to the beach the better!

My boyfriend and I went here in November 2013- absolutely fantastic!iThe original plan was to book 4 nights in Railay then go elsewhere. It didnt happen- we arrived in railay- loved it so much and decided to stay 10 days doing tours and everything that was on offer. We stayed at Railay Bay Spa and Resort for the first 4 days as we had booked that from UK-tried to book more nights there but they were full so went next door to Sand sea resort and enquired there- we were shown two types of rooms by a very helpful receptionist and he was incredibly patient too as i could not make up my mind on which room to stay in they were both very impressive!!Decided on superior bungalow- lovely little wooden hut - recommend it! There were strange bangs sometimes but its fine its the monkeys that jump around the trees. We opted for bed and breakfast breakfast which was tasty- lots of food even brunch syle food- pancakes too..toast the usual and cooked breakfast- egg station..everything you could want..and to top it off- you eat breakfast if you choose practically on the beach overlooking the green/blue water on this beautiful island. The hotel is very clean- staff are courteous- views are great.
There quite a few places to have dinner around west railay and even east railay its literally 5 minutes walk to the other side of the island. We found the perfect little place to have dinner it was called Mamas Kitchen- now although it does not look much- the food is fantastic and incredibly reasonable.
If you want a great holiday with plenty of memories and experiences- go!!

Room Tip: You can view the rooms before- so ask to see the rooms avaliable- they will take you via golf buggy...

Myself and my partner stayed here for four nights in March after booking via hotels.com. We arrived in Railay with nowhere to stay and walked straight in to the Sand Sea Resort as it is right on the main beach. I didn't find the reception staff to be as rude as the previous reviewers might suggest - but the rate they offered us was nearly double one that we found on hotels.com so make sure you check before accepting a walk-in rate.
We paid for a junior suite and the rooms are fantastic - in a modern building with air con, beautiful bathroom and huge beds. The rooms were clean and nicely furnished with modern decor. The breakfasts are good and there's a wide choice available, we had pad thai for breakfast one day, followed by scrambled eggs and bacon the next! This hotel doesn't sell alcohol, but there is a shop next door where you can buy cold beers cheaply, and they didn't seem to mind us drinking them around the pool area at sunset (we certainly weren't the only ones doing this!).
We didn't have dinner in the hotel because it was very overpriced - there's some nice restaurants down walking alley that offer more authentic food at half the price. The wifi didn't work when we first arrived but the reception staff fixed that, and they also helped us when we forgot our code to the safe. The location is stunning - you can sunbathe by the pool and look out at the beautiful cliffs of Railay. There is also a second pool at the back of this hotel which is a lot quieter and perfect for a swim.
I think most of the negative reviews on here are about the old style bungalows so it could be that we had a better experience with the modern block, but I would recommend this hotel to other couples or families staying here.
