“Nice location, Horrible reception staff”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

The hotel area is huge and spans from East to West Railey. As such, your room may very well not be beach front. However, the beach front itself is beautiful and the restaurant location very good.
The reception staff is however horrible. My friend got food poisoning and asked for a late check out. They could agree to no more than 1 hour (1 pm instead of noon), even though the hotel was half empty. That is both insensitive and frankly amateur like behavior.
On similar notes, room service, cleaning and the like was almost ramdom. Seems there is no real management at the hotel.
I will stay elsewhere on my next visit.

Room Tip: As close to Railay west as possible. The hotel is huge, so you can potentially be on either beach.

I wish that we would have combed through more reviews before booking this place. There are nicer places to stay on this peninsula-but on the east side for a fraction of the price. We were told the way to get there (from airport) was via long boat from Au Nang-but were totally shocked when we realized that meant hauling our rolling suitcases over the sandy beach, carrying them over our heads through water and then onto the boat (good thing our shoes were waterproof and that it didn't matter about our clothes)-doubly shocked when we realized we had to do the same once we arrived at Railay West. When we got to the reception (again through water and sandy beach with our rolling suitcases) and then were driven (via golf cart) to our room that we thought was going to be on Railay West, we thus found out that it was 2 rows back from Railay East-even though we were paying Railay West prices to stay there. When we went back to the reception to tell them about this they were quite indifferent, although they said we could 'upgrade' for another $45/night. Beware, future travelers that this 'resort' is misleading in that half of the rooms are closer to Railay east than west. We also later found out that if we had arrived originally via Railay East that there was a little dock to walk on as well as sometimes a tractor to meet arriving guests. We ended up moving the other nights to another nicer resort (in fact on Railay east), where they were polite and helpful, for a fraction of the price. While the pool is nice at this resort and the beach on Railay West beautiful, I do not recommend staying here.

After staying in Aonang, we moved on to our second resort, recommended by andaman avdentures, which is the Railay Bay Resort. We booked the privacy cottage and we were thoroughly impressed. The room was fantastic and the decor was classy and minimalistic, much to my boyfriends delight. I have to say the even though lunch and dinner was good, as we orderd it, the breakfast was not to our liking. But for the price, this is a fantastic resort that extends along two beaches.

We just came back from Railay Bay last weekend and, while the location was just beautiful, sadly we can't say the same thing about our experience at Railay Bay Resort & Spa. The resort has so much potential as it flanks both the East & West sides, with a seemingly good mixture of accommodation options. You get the best of both worlds and can walk from East to West to escape the noise/crowds/winds or get amongst it.

A couple of quick positives: the lunch we had at the pool bar was very good - usual Thai fare.
It has absolute beachfront position with the pool, restaurant and a few lucky cottages.
The hotel transfer was very seamless, on time, efficient and hassle free.

However the resort is in dire need of an upgrade, or at the very minimum just a good maintenance program. The grounds are shabby and there was often rubbish lying in amongst the gardens, the childrens plastic play equipment was festering with black water, dirt and leaves of a 1000 days of abandonment. Broken and worn fencing and brickwork was haphazardly patched up, wires exposed... the list goes on.

But the most disappointing was the service. The reception staff we dealt with could barely speak English and didn't even look at us or try to communicate with us. There were no smiles or warm greetings, definitely not what we're use to from Thailand. The wait staff in the restaurant frequently stood around in bunches looking around at guests but doing absolutely nothing. The only attention we got from any wait staff was when we got up out of our chairs and went over to where they were standing to ask for something.

All up very disappointing, we'd love to go back to Railay Bay is the location is just absolutely beautiful, but we won't be staying here again.

This resort is one of several on the island and from what we saw walking around, probably the best one, the views from the breakfast table are amazing. The pool butts up right against the beach. Room was good but starting to look a little tired - this is the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars...staff very good, attentive and polite...

We've been staying at this resort at least once a year or two for over 10 years and often recommended it to our friends. While the location is outstanding, as many of the reviews here would agree, the service has dived a bit and the prices are simply out of line now. Sadly our last trip there last week will be our last trip there period. The final straw was when they charged us 600 Baht for a small plate of fried rice. And the room rates for the off season were higher than what we used to pay in the high season. I guess that makes sense when you see the literally hundreds of Chinese and Russian tourists wave through in throngs.....Things always change and that is fine. Luckily we have our own place over in Lanta now and Railay is not someplace we feel compelled to return to any more.

My husband and I stayed at this resort for a 6 nights in a privacy cottage with the an outside spa. I had really high hopes for this resort, but unfortunately left very disappointed.
The location is amazing - possibly, visually, the best beach I've ever seen with the limestone cliffs enclosing the bay on each side, but it is the accommodation and service that let this place down. Our room, while appearing clean, frequently had an unpleasant 'sewerage smell' emanating from the surrounding drains and we gave up using our outside spa when we found wild monkeys lounging around near it one night - that might explain the smell!
The service at the hotel was poor. At one point I was trying to organise a return transfer to the mainland and the receptionist, looking bored, just walked off mid-conversation and didn't come back.
There are some really pretty parts of Railay Bay that are worth exploring, but you could easily do this by hiring a longboat (they're everywhere) from the mainland and coming over to spend the day before returning to more hospitable accommodations.
