“Desert Luxury”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 December 2013

What a great family experience! We had a fantastic time, it was remote, relaxing, and rejuvenating! Service was outstanding, the food at the restaurant was great. Only minor complaint was the dinner in the tent - the food was just average. The setting is fantastic, and the short hikes in the desert were awesome. Family had a fantastic time and a place I would highly recommend!

For a relaxing stay the hotel is perfect. The room was large with excellent facilities and the breakfast / evening buffets were diverse and of very good quality.

The location is a perfect getaway and well worth the effort to get there from the airport. There is also a good range of activities organised by the hotel.

However what sets the hotel from other 5 star hotels I have stayed at in the middle east and around the world is the staff. They are friendly and genuinely interested without being fake and will do anything for you which was especially thoughtful as travelling solo - particular mention to anowar (sunshine butler) and sachan (table service outside at the main restuarant. Many thanks

A simply marvellous property...
We booked a balcony desert view room which was perfect for us. The room was very comfortable, the view was great, the toiletries luxurious.
We did the Liwa desert tour and the camel trek, both were great with knowledgable guides and a fun atmosphere.
One small downside, not really the hotel's fault, but they may be able to influence the future. We flew business class Etihad Mel - Auh and booked Etihad chauffeur service. Unfortunately the Etihad chauffeur got lost a couple of times on the way to the resort and refused to contact the resort to get any assistance. Maybe the resort could provide directions to Etihad airways for the future?
Overall our stay was simply wonderful.

Dear ThedavidC,

Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely and valuable review.

It is always gratifying to know that we have been able to please our guests. Moreover, we are glad that you enjoyed our desert activities. It was thoughtful of you to inform us of this great news which always serves as great encouragement and motivation for our associates. We will certainly share your review to the team especially to the desert guides.

On the other hand, it was so kind of you to bring to our attention your feedback about Etihad’s chauffeur service. Please be assured that we will coordinate with the airline to ensure that they have the correct location map so as to avoid any inconvenience in the future.

We look forward to greeting you again one day in the not too distant future and to the privilege of extending to you once again Anantara hospitality.

Yours sincerely,

After driving some 200km from Abu Dhabi this stunning luxury hotel appears in the desert like a Fata Morgana. To describe this resort with its outstanding architecture is almost impossible, you should admire it with your own eyes.
We spent a weekend in a very spacious pool villa, furnished in Arabian style and equipped with all possible amenities. The resort offers many interesting activities, we have participated some of them such as archery, camel riding, falconry and hunting dog show. A walk in the dunes and the absolute silence of the night were also unforgettable experiences.
Both breakfast buffet and dinner were plentiful and of excellent quality. The friendly staff was very attentive and helpful, always with a smile on the face.
In short: One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in, absolutely recommendable!

Just a few words to describe this amazing resort. Peaceful, relaxing and unique. We tried the restaurants which might not serve the best food in the world but in a location like that nothing counts more than the incredible feeling you get from the place itself.
Give it a try, you can't be disappointed.

We just returned from a weekend visit at Qasr Al Sarab and I am frankly still in awe. The resort is so stunning, mystical and absolutely breathtaking and it's almost impossible to do it justice with words. One really has to see it to understand how magical it is.

Rooms: We booked a Deluxe Garden room which is the most "basic" room on offer, but don't be fooled, there is nothing basic or unspectacular about it. The room comes with a massive bathroom, a beautifully designed interior and a cosy garden/terrace area. The view was unparalleled - we could sit there forever staring at the amazing scenery.

Food: Outstanding! We enjoyed breakfast at the main restaurant which was great. Excellent selection of foods, both hot and cold. For our first dinner, we went to the steak house and had a fabulous meal. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were great too. The tuna was not the best we've ever had, but not bad either. Our server was lovely and very attentive. Didn't catch his name, but I remember he is from Myanmar and just completed a year at the resort. The second dinner was at Ghadeer restaurant and again the food was really delicious. The kitchen didn't get my order right the first time so I had to send it back. Only minutes later I received the second try and it was a fantastic meal. Absolutely impressive how quickly they rallied to fix their mistake and when the bill arrived they also applied a discount to compensate for the inconvenience. Very professionally handled.

Gym: Very modern and inviting. Definitely a good idea to get some cardio in before breakfast because you will most likely eat more than you should ;). The pool is beautiful as well and the attendants are always available to assist.

The only thing I found slightly disappointing was that I had advised the hotel in advance that this was a very special weekend as my partner and I had just gotten engaged and went to Qasr al Sarab to celebrate this life milestone. It would have been nice if the hotel had acknowledged that and congratulated us while we were there (the friendly Guest Relations team emailed me back to provide the requested spa menu and congratulated per email, but it would have been a very nice personal touch if someone shared our excitement in person as well)

Anyway, it was such a great trip and very well worth the expense (it is rather pricey). It's pretty much unforgettable and of all the places I have visited throughout the Middle East, this is my favorite.

As we left the resort, my fiance said "How would you feel about getting married here?" ... it's that beautiful!

I was travelling with my family (two kids of 2 and 4 years) for three days out in the desert. This hotel was excellent, if I should find some negative, then the breakfast can be slightly improved (maybe some for still being five star). We had a room with terrace, I will strongly recommend that. Service was five star. The hotel has suburb surroundings in the desert. Very good swimming pools, but for us the rule about not jumping into the pool for our son of four years was a bit strange. He has just learned to swim, and we as parents were there. But we accepted that and the kids really enjoyed the place.

Me and my son went driving into the sand dunes. That was fun! The visit to the camel was ok also, but the sand bashing was better.

Room Tip: Terrace rooms (upper floors) (or own villa, of course).
