“Prendy's at Hellshire Beach”
Review of Hellshire Beach

Hellshire Beach
Reviewed 7 September 2016 via mobile

A small group of five (5) visited Prendy's on August 25. We selected our own fish individually, added some drinks and side orders, then chatted while we waited. It was a good hangout with friends; good clean music, cold beer, restroom facilities and the splashing sea!
The wait was about 30 minutes or so, and my first try at the steamed Lion Fish went very well! The visit to Prendys was definately a positive one, and I found the staff to be friendly and willing to please their patrons.
A definate thumbs up!

Was here last week for the Olympics 4x100 relay finals and was a really great vibe and atmosphere! We had lobsters and steamed fish! Very good. The fried lobster was my favorite. Will definitely return. If you go there try Bev's and Son's or Schreechie international.

We have visited hellshire many times while visiting Jamaica and it never lets us down
There are many fish restaurants to choose from serving fish, lobster, shrimps fresh from the sea
The beach has improved since my last visit and is clean and nice, white sands
Even picked up wifi
Also nice at night time for a fish supper and a drink at one of the bars while listening to music

We had a great time at this local hangout at the recommendation of a friend in Portmore. There are plenty of food stalls to eat local favorites and freshly caught seafood at non-tourist prices. This gorgeous soft beach is perfect for playing in the sand or wading or swimming, which is a rare combo in this part of the island where usually there are rocks or rough water. There are bars all along playing great music where you can grab a stool and a rum and ting and watch the sun fall into the water imagining you never have to go home.

My husband and I loved going to Hellshire Beach, but you need to research it a little, and know what to expect. It isn't for everyone! You will be approached by the vendors as you enter to go to the place. The beach is definitely short (not much sand before ocean), so it's not really for sunbathing.

What do you do at Hellshire Beach? You go there for the fish! You pick your own fish or lobster from a cooler, and tell the cooks how you want it prepared (we had it fried whole w Escovitch pickled vegetables), go for a dip in the ocean, and 15-20 minutes later you get to eat the freshest fish with festival and bammy for sides. Ours was from Aunt Merl's Fish Place and we had one parrot fish and one snapper. We also took one of each to go for friends in the area. $J5800 for all, which is about $12 US each. We thought it was well worth it.

TIP - Shop around and ask the prices before you commit to your order. There are many fish shacks that serve great food at Hellshire Beach so don't be afraid to go to the next place if the price is jacked up.
