“Nice stay, clean pleasant and nice staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

After spending a week on St Lucia we headed to Grenada arriving on a Sunday evening in the pouring rain. It was dark on arrival so the beauty of the resort was not appreciated until first light with the wonderful award winning gardens viewed directly from our balcony.
During our stay we made the most of their private beach enjoying the warmth of the Caribbean Sea with snorkelling equipment borrowed free of charge from the resort. They also have some canoes for you to borrow which were great fun. Dieter one of the owners kindly took us out on his dingy and Lynn the Manager found a bottle of coconut water locally to go with the Rum.
We visited St George's a couple of times and an educational day trip with Rock. At sunset we headed to the Beach bar fir a Piña Colada. One night the minister of tourism were in the bar giving a speech! The resort is European run with friendly local staff. Downside - we arrived one week early missing the dingy concert and the Lightship restaurant. As someone who has visited over 50 countries I would return to Grenada and this hotel. I have already recommended to a friend.

Room Tip: Garden villa with sea view gives you best of both options

I think Le Phare Bleu is the first hotel I've stayed at where the website photos of the property and villas appear exactly as they are. The owners, Yana and Dieter have gone to great lengths to ensure an experience that is beyond expectation. The villas are massive, inviting modern spaces with an open concept approach--you can leave the villa doors wide open! Our morning routine quickly became this: grabbing hot nutmeg-laced coffee from The Deck and returning to our balcony to take in the hummingbird activity around our villa.
Each villa is equipped with a full kitchen, fridge (with freezer and ice maker), kettle, stove and oven--for the ambitious. Though, the smell of curry (don't miss out on the chicken roti) and baking pizzas (2 for 1 on Tuesdays) will lure you over to the restaurant sooner than later.
The property is a distance from the main road (close to 2 kilometers to the bus stop) on a hilly, perfumed stretch where, for the amibitious, punishing morning runs will be rewarded with the sweet smells of the isle: nutmeg, coriander and thyme. There is little traffic on the road, so, walking or running this route is tranquil and completely safe.
The Le Phare Bleu property is hard to leave--though we managed to part for a day to check out nearby Grand Anse Beach. However, the privacy and solitude found poolside or at Le Phare's beach is unmatched. Happy Hour has killer deals---buckets of beer (six Carib or Stag) for $24 EC ($12 Canadian). The pina coladas and pain killers (not part of happy hour) are well worth the paralyzing amounts of rum that ignite them.
The staff are quick to please and genuine ambassadors of Grenada. Tom and Lindy were consistently jovial and customer service driven. The hotel manager, Lynn, was equally efficient and conscientious about making sure our stay was superior.
Though the beachfront proper is short, walking along the pier to check out the yachts was on the daily itinerary. Marina guests and yachties were fun to chat with--and on Wednesdays Le Phare hosts a "Friendship Table" at the Deck restaurant where you can mingle with hotel guests and sailors, to hear tall tales of ocean navigation. On a tamer scale, the hotel has two kayaks and two Hobie cats and snorkelling gear for guests.
You won't be disappointed with a stay at Le Phare. It's plush and posh. Don't be surprised when you fall asleep and awake 10 hours later because the mattresses are like sleeping on clouds! And, to fall asleep to an orchestra of frogs is really what dreams are made of.
Local soap and shower amenties that smell exactly like key lime pie are provided, and a homemade oregano oil mosquito repellant--in addition to jugs of milk and juice on your arrival. The water in the fridge is filtered and a mini-market on the property sells beer, spirits, wine, snacks and addictive rum & raisin ice cream.
Conveniently, Le Phare also has an on-site chiropractor and massage services (on your villa balcony) available. And, on Thursdays there is a fresh fruit market where you can purchase sorrel, starfruit, papaya and guava juice.
The unique feature of Le Phare is that Dieter indulges in his musical roots (having owned a music school previously) by hosting local musicians and travelling bands like Canada's Madison Violet (who introduced us to the hotel on a VIP package that included two performances, a Hog Island tour, day excursion and accommodations). Check out footage of the 15th dinghy concert (dinghyconcerts.com) that are exactly that--a concert on the water.
Really, there is no excuse to leave Le Phare. But, when you do, it's only 20 minutes to the airport.
Thank you to Yana and Dieter for sharing your secret sanctuary with us! It was the best place to recalibrate and escape this madness we call winter in Canada.

Room Tip: Choose the seafront villas for proximity to the beach and marina. Your commute to the beach side lou...

I cannot find this restaurant listed separately from the resort on Trip Advisor.

When I discovered that The Deck at Le Phare Bleu resort had a communal dinner called "friendship table" on Wednesday evenings, I could not wait to go as I am a solo traveller and get tired of eating alone.

I went twice. The first time I was there it was poorly attended, maybe 10 people, but I sat with a very nice gentleman who was a great conversationalist and had a lovely time. The meal was buffet style and delicious with over a dozen Caribbean style dishes to try.

The second time I went, the meal was better attended as the owners of the entire resort were there entertaining family from out of town. I also went with a couple from England that I had met on the beach. We sat with the owners and had a great time. This meal was served family style - bowls of steaming food set out on the table for all to try. There was more than enough food and, again, it was delicious - this time having a Mexican theme.

I highly recommend this restaurant especially to those travelling alone... go to their friendship table night.

This place is far away from where I stayed at Grand Anse beach. You will need to take a cab and it will cost you $50 EC return. You pay your driver at the end of the evening when he drops you home, this ensures he will come to get you at the appointed time. Allow two and a half to three hours from the time you are dropped of to when you want to be picked up.

There is a great bar in the restaurant that will keep you happy while you wait for your taxi driver, if needs be.

This was one of the most expensive places I ate, costing about $35 Canadian with a glass of wine with dinner, but worth it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to find us and write a review.

We have thought about putting a listing up for our main restaurant The Deck, your review will make us look at this again. We would love to know how you heard about the Friendship Table whilst staying here on the island? So glad you enjoyed your visit to us and thanks again for taking the time to post a review.

Kind regards
Lynn

If you're thinking of visiting this stunning property - don't!!! I WANT IT ALL TO MYSELF!!!!! I was seriously considering not writing this review, in the vain hope that le phare bleu will remain undiscovered, but the altruistic side of my nature has prevailed and I feel compelled to brag about the perfect holiday we've just had, tucked away in Petite Calivigny.

The accommodation was superb - beautifully designed and from a seasoned bed-hopper (work related, you understand!!!!) I can honestly say that the bed was up there in the top ten of best beds in the world .... even coming close to the Westin's 'heavenly bed', if you've even slept on it! The linen was top-quality, room was cool and comfortable. We were in a first floor apartment (there are two 2-storey buildings at the rear of the gardens, each with one apartment on the ground floor and one on the 1st floor). The terrace reaches along the entire front of the accommodation, with enough space for a dining table and chairs, plus a swinging 2 seater sofa, coffee table etc..... The accommodation can be completely open or closed by using the wooden folding shutters. The grounds are stunning and we enjoyed meals and drinks in the deck bar - lounged by the pool, with the view over the small marina. As other reviewers have stated, there's a useful mini-market and laundry, which we used. It is so peaceful, with just enough bustle from the marina to keep an eye on during the lounging! There is a lovely country walk up to the main road, where the buses will take you into the capital. A huge part of the great experience, aside from the location and accommodation is the staff. Everyone is just so friendly and helpful and full of suggestions to transfrom your stay into a completely wonderful holiday. As mentioned before, Lynn, the general manager, is around seemingly night and day, keeping her team motivated and more than happy to iron out any small problems that may arise. Laziness overtook us and we got a lift up to the main road. How often would an hotel manager do that??? We were overwhelmed by the extra attention - including Dieter, the owner, taking us for a spin on his boat. The beauty and peacefulness of Le Phare Bleu was enhanced immeasurably by the people that live and work around this unique place. I felt as if I lived there, by the end of the week and had a rude awakening, when I realized I had to go home!!!!!!!! My other half had to cope with a silent, sullen, tearful travelling companion for a few hours after we were dropped off at the airport by the lovely Rock, who had taken us on an island mini-tour during the week and fascinated us with Grenada's history.

So take my initial advice.... keep away!!!! Or keep it a BIG secret... you will fall in love with the place, as we did, I'm sure. This is something just abit different - a magical piece of the Caribbean.

I was a little concerned when I saw the title of your review - it certainly got my attention. Thank you for all your lovely words and we look forward to welcoming you back again one day.

We do think of ourselves as being 'a little bit 'different' and certainly attract people who do not want to stay in a 'normal' hotel. We are not regimented, in fact you can kick your shoes off when you arrive and don't have to put them on again until you leave. I think flip flops or bare feet should be compulsory. The beauty of Grenada is kicking back and enjoying the delightful and safe surroundings plus the friendly people. Re-charge your spirit and soul whilst enjoying the warmth of the Caribbean climate.

Think of us when you have a moment in your busy schedule and remember your lovely but short week with us. Probably best I don't mention the beer shower at the Hash though, oops, I just did.

Many thanks
Lynn

My husband and I live on Grenada and celebrated his 50th birthday with a night in the Garden Villa at Le Phare Bleu. The villa was incredibly spacious and fully equipped for in-villa dining, which was our preference. The villa was quiet, clean, and ideally situated for privacy. The private pool within the Garden Villa topped the cake. The staff accommodated our every need to make the birthday celebration a perfect and memorable event. Thank you, Le Phare Bleu!

Le Phare Bleu is a keeper! We have stayed elsewhere on the island in the past and Le Phare Bleu is now our favorite. The well thought out open air accommodations give one the perfect tropical experience. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. The addition of the mini market makes gathering some food stuffs especially easy. Being able to snorkel, kayak and sail within a few steps for our villa was extra special. I hope to return often.

Wonderful place, with elegant and stylish accommodations, sensational restaurant (food and setting) and lovely staff. The rooms are perfectly designed for the tropical setting, and the option to self-cater with the well-appointed kitchenette is a real plus.
