“christmas special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2013

From the moment we arrived, the staff were attentive, helpful and efficient. The welcome drink was delightful. Rooms were perfect and warm. The facilities were excellent, and all well organised with guests needs catered for.
The food was superb and not lacking in quality or quantity.
We have stayed several times at Dunston and the service has always been superb
Looking forward to our next stay.

The first room was poor but the up grade was much better. Food not good, I think the staff were over stretched.. Rooms miles away from reception, got lost alot! THe hotel from outside was amazing, it was a shame about inside. Abit of TLC would work wonders. The hotel needs more staff

Stayed here on a 3 day meeting. Room was miles away from restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.
Reception and bar areas all nice and clean, restaurant looks quite new.
Food was a disaster apart from breakfast. We were in a large group and all the meals were either over/under cooked and of a very poor standard.
My room was ok but again, needs a refurb and smelt a bit musty on arrival.
Staff however were all helpful and polite, just the building itself a litte tired.

We stayed her on Friday the 4th and Sat 5th of Jan.
We had a deal from their website of 2 nights B+B and one evening meal for £179.
Our first room 524 was a Family room with 2 double beds with a view over the rear of the Bunkers Club house. Clean and comfortable, the only problem we found was it was a bit noisy, 1st of all the lift next door had a squeaky door and the plumbing had some kind of airlock in that caused an odd clanking/whining sound. We mentioned this in reception the next morning and within the hour they had found us room 450 which I must say is probably the nicest room we've ever stayed in.
Room 450!! The Bed was huge, not just big, Huge!! Decor was stunning and spotless. I was told by a friend these are the room used by Visiting Football players etc, I can see why.
Only neg point was the firedoor outside the room closed with a clunk.
What I will say is, all rooms seem to be a fair way from the reception and stairs are involved somewhere, but I'm sure if you have access problems ie wheelchairs prams they must have rooms that you can access.

The Pool complex, looked very tired. But we still managed to spend 3 hours chatting with family in there.
Steam room nice and steamy, but needs a little more light so those outside can see it's full and not have to open the door to check if there is space, therefore letting the steam out.
Sauna, too dark and a very odd layout that means you have to push past others that are sitting lower than you. Timer and Temp in the sauna? I'm sure a digital display could be fitted somehow as the egg timer was VERY hard to see.
Food/dining. Breakfasts very nice, no crumpets though :( maybe they are not 5 star items.
Evening Dining, We had the Carvery meal, starters had some items missing which I had to ask to be replenished on the buffet, but this was done within a couple of minutes,
The Carvery was great, lovely moist meat and plenty of it. Vegetables plentiful.

Service, I could not complain about any member of staff, our waitress on Saturday night was very dutifull. Every member of staff had a smile for us. Reception were very understanding about our gripes about the room on our first night.
Will we stay there again? Very likely, but it is only 10 miles from home.

Room Tip: Find a good deal online. Make sure you visit Norwich.

Booked through laterooms. When I got there try did not have the booking but ended up being cheaper!!
Room was a long way from reception. Pretty bog standard room, poor wifi.
I'm struggling to find something to say it's so unremarkable. If you get a good deal go there and see for yourself.

My wife and I have just got back from a short break to Dunston hall. This the 2nd time I have visited the hotel and as before the service etc was excellent.
We booked a DB&B package and think this is great value considering how grand the place is. The food on this package on a carvery basis, but al a carte allowance is included in the price should you decide that the carvery is not for you. But I have to say, the choices and quality are very good, so you would not necessarily want to eat off the menu anyway.
The breakfast selection is huge and the quality is very good indeed.
We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms and they are very large, clean and comfortable. The decor is very modern in these rooms and total peace and quiet away from it all if that is the type of break you are looking for. Although when we stayed, the weather was heavy snow, there is plenty to do in the hotel complex should you decide just to stay within the grounds.
Norwich city centre is only a short distance away and very easy to get to especially if you use the park and ride service that is only a mile or so up the road.
Also if you decided that you wanted to visit a choice of local restuarants, the staff are always happy to help with recommendations etc.
All staff were very keen to help and I would find it very difficult to fault the place to be honest.

Room Tip: I would ask for one of the newly refurbished rooms as they are very good quality and decor very nice...
