My husband and I stayed here for an overnight stay as a treat to ourselves. Only living 15 minutes away it was convenient and local enough to not have to travel too far on a Bank Holiday.
Check in was quite slow but they were busy with an influx of people all at the same time.
We had upgraded to a deluxe room and although the room was large and spacious, little things let it down. Fixtures and fittings had been removed from the bathroom but the holes in the wall still remained, there were scuff marks on the walls and the carpet was quite grubby. Not what you would expect of a top class hotel and its impressive surroundings.
The leisure facilities were clean and the pool was very busy due to several functions being held that evening in the hotel.
Dinner in the carvery was ok but very overpriced. £15 for a one course carvery on a Sunday night seemed a bit extreme and £5.50 for a glass of wine made sure that it lasted me all evening!!
I had to wait 15 minutes for a latte to be served to me in the bar afterwards.
I think every door to every room on our floor slammed shut and the one to the entrance to the lift squeaked so every person using this door throughout the evening and during the night, kept us awake with the constant creaking.
Breakfast the next morning was ok but the slow service let it down. I had finished my cooked breakfast before I was even asked if I would like a hot drink and they should definatley invest in another toaster. One is just not enough for the quantity of people that they are catering for in a morning.
Check out was quick and painless. I dont think we would stay here again unless we were reassured that the door squeak had been fixed or they reduced their menu/wine prices!

This is the first time we had stayed at Dunston Hall and I must say it is a lovely hotel, as you come down the drive you get the Wow Factor, what a stunning building I must say. On arrival we where greeted by a lovely girl on reception, who was very friendly and complimentary upgraded us to a deluxe room.
The hotel was faultless, from dinner to the swimming pool, the steam room was bliss. All members of staff we came across where very helpful and smilling.
We will defo be coming back to Dunston.

The only good point to note is that the staff were excellent. Very helpful, eager to please and went out of their way to respond to any requests. Unfortunately, the rest is rather awful. The hotel is completely run down and has clearly been left for a number of years with no investment. The room we had was shabby - paint peeling, décor old and tired, room generally oppressive with very dated colours, bathroom with chipped enamel, peeling paint etc. The changing rooms for the swimming pool were filthy - used plasters and hair on the shower floors. This hotel boasts luxury and charges for it when in reality these times of luxury in this place have long since passed.

I went to dunston hall hotel this weekend with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. The staff were very nice and welcoming. it was really nice and decorated in the main lobby and bar. the room was a let down. It didn't look like it did in the picture, we had a horrible view of the dirty roof of the conservatory. The window panes needed re-doing and the wall had smears and marks over it. The spa was lovely. You have your own sun bed which was nice and the steam room was very nice. overall it was a genuinely good stay. But it could have been better.

We booked what was supposed to be a romantic 2 night break and were disappointed beyond belief.

On arrival we were pleased to find out that we had got a standby upgrade to a 4 poster suite - but spent the rest of the weekend wishing we hadn't. The suite was very tatty - ripped carpets outside the door, 2 out of 3 of the chairs needed recovering, poor repairs in the bathroom and bolts poking out the side of the 4 poster bed. On top of the poor state of repair, the receptionist failed to mention that the room was located above the Eaton Suite which was hosting a wedding… so we were treated to music coming through the floor from 7pm through to 1am the next morning.

Reception did say if it got too much to let them know, but who is going to complain about a wedding, it is after all the most special day. I just wish I had known before we accepted the upgrade, but by the time we realised it was too late and the hotel was full.

The website advertises Sky TV in all rooms but this is not the case - you have a limited selection of free view in this suite (no Movie Mix and no Film 4) so settling down for a romantic movie whilst we waited for the noise to stop was not an option.

Day two and we were assured that it would be quiet - but sadly room 6 has a jacuzzi bath and it backs on to the bathroom in room 7… so we were treated to the sounds of an over excited couple having a shouted conversation (!!) above the sounds of their jacuzzi bath. We spent the afternoon out walking and then hid in the bar.

So all in all, disappointing beyond belief. Am resorting to putting my comments here because having spoken to reception on the Saturday and left our feedback form on the Monday morning, De Vere have now sent me another 'survey'… no one has been in touch about the previous two lots of feedback I left so hopefully leaving it here may spur them in to action!

The one redeeming feature of this hotel is the staff - they are friendly and offer excellent service but sadly, they are not magicians.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 7 - it may be a 4 poster suite but it is tatty and noisy.

We booked a family room for a pre easter 2 night break,on a B&b basis.the hotel when we you arrive looks impressive with sweeping driveway and golf club. Reception is dingy and dark and not as you would expect. Staff friendly but we arrived about 1pm and our room was not available until 3pm check in. We asked was it ready and were told it didn't matter as check in was 3pm. Felt like a gulag! Went round to golf club bar for sandwich lunch was quick, good and well priced and nice staff. Thanks heavens it was as the dining experience in main hotel was awful later on. You are offered a carvery or a la carte, or mixed. We had starters from alc which had obviously been plated up many hours earlier. Awful. The rest of the ALC menu was uninspiring so we went for the carvery which was fine but at £14.50 I have had better for a tenner in a pub. Service was awful took 3goes to get our wine. Our 9 year old ate from the childrens menu and despite been straight off the beach into hotel swimming pool ie starving wouldn't eat the chips. They were shocking. The last time the oil was changed in that fryer I think Tony Blair was still in power! Terrible.what 9 yo refuses chips.? Second night we went out into Norwich to eat.
Room was jaded circa 1980s. Terrible decor and swags and tails overlooking he back of the golf clubhouse. the carpet had not been hoovered when we got here nor after a housekeeping visit. Little things like two sets of towels when there were three of us. Had to ask for more.
And iron and ironing board half fixed to wall with a sticker on saying do not use, was dangerous and should be removed in a family room. Had an awful nights sleep on aged hard beds, heard all the neighbours plumbing, and on a night there was a frost outside we slept with the window open the allowed 1" as the room was SO hot. There is no air con so NEVER stay here in summer.
Plus points
You get a small empty fridge in the room so good for milk for kids etc (assuming the ironing board hasn't fallen on them and killed them first!) God forbid.
The swimming pool is nice and plenty of room for all.
Golf club bar has good food.
Grounds are lovely
I would not recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Go some where else.

Well what a disappointment.

We stayed one night, paid £140.00 for a room with no view, no natural daylight reached the window, un-comfy sprung bed. The spa area needs a refurb, Jacuzzi at 35 degree only.

Terrible waiting time at bar for drinks.

No way is this 4* rating.

I have stayed in far superior Premier Inns.

One to avoid

Room Tip: Look for another hotel.
