Having visited Dunstan Hall 29 times over a number of years, our recent stay was excellent. A friendly welcome followed by good food and excellent service was followed by a pleasant round of golf.
The reviews of 2005 are completely out of date. Much refurbishment has taken place and it's now a very good venue.

Don't be fooled by the pictures - This isn't a luxury Country House hotel. What it is, is a mass Conference, Banqueting, Golfing Hotel, clothed in good looking pseudo tudor brickwork with a decent spa. Food is mass catering, but staff efficient. Biggest problems are the iffy heating/ventilation and the high prices for drink and food .. Apart from breakfast I recommend you eat @ the Wildebeest Arms a mile away

We booked a special rate, 2-night break and arrived with an open mind, but slightly wary after reading some other reviews.
The staff were all welcoming, friendly and helpful.
There wasn't any soap in the bathroom but reception immediately found some for us and apologised for the oversight.
There was plenty of choice on the breakfast buffet and we found the food to be well cooked and tasty.
We ate one meal in the Brasserie, served by an attentive waitress, and enjoyed what we ordered.
The location is absolutely stunning and Norwich and surrounding areas within easy reach.
We used the pool area twice and again were impressed with the facilities, I particularly liked the fact that the water was very warm to swim in. Staff again were very friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return again, hopefully soon.

Booked in for one night on a trip back from brighton. Loads of parking, efficient reception servfice and room had that touch of luxury about it. Used the bar and resturant in the evening and the public areas all warm and friendly. Did see some comments about the hotel being cold, but was definatly not the case when we stayed. Service in the resturant a little slow and a bit hit and miss, wrong drinks delivered etc.

Kids loved the breakfast, especially the forest fruits.

Not the most accessable grounds, well we couldnt find anywhere for much of an evening stroll.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable stay at Dunston Hall, we used the spring Break deal and really found it great value, we had three seperate bookings and they made sure we were located on the same floor, even though one party only came for 2 days and the rest were there for 4 days, lovely staff, nice rooms lovely and clean and comfortable only problem they are very warm. The breakfast is lovely lots of choice for everyone and again lovely service. A great central location for sight seeing looking forward to another great deal so we can book again!!!

Took advantage of Spring offer for 2 nights & stayed in enormous four poster room with it's own spa bath. Thought the location was excellent for seeing Norfolk & staff were very helpful & friendly. Main criticism was a Ball going on in the room below us which was ok as not too noisy & ended at 1AM, however, was woken from 4.30 onwards as clearly the room was being prepared for something the following day & very loud bangs of furnishing etc being moved. Advised receptionist on leaving who said we should have been informed of function & gave us a very significant & satisfactory discount. Also, was too chilled to go out to eat & tried carvery first night which was disappointing & very standard. Ate in the restaurant the following night, the food was nice but expensive, but service in both v good. Overall despite above slight criticism's, brilliant stay. we certainly got good value for money & loved the pool & leisure centre.

You have to wonder why such a 'fantastic' hotel is constantly offering deals on their rooms... well, we should have known better. Poor rooms, below average food, rude staff.
We first stayed at Dunstan hall in late November 2008. It was seriously one of the most disappointing hotel stays my partner or I have experienced. Sadly, approaching the beautiful building along the grand driveway- sets expectations which are sorely undelivered. The room itself was damp and shabby- perhaps leaning towards luxury over 20 years ago. The bathroom offered little consolation, slight mould and damp- giving a weary, tired look overall. We ate at the in-house restaurant that night and for spending over £100 expected an above average meal. Although the service was adequate- the meal itself was below average. The starter of quail being dry, bony and miserable looking. My partners second of lamb was acceptable enough, but sadly the duck I ordered was tasteless and lacking the unctuous flavour you may have grown to expect. To be fair dessert was very good- but sadly could not save the meal.
The worse part of our stay was the room itself which housed a very faulty venting system which made the worse racket all night. When we rang to see what could be done, we were dismissed as if this was of no importance. After trying to sleep for a further two hours, we called down for some ear plugs- only to be told by a mocking employee to ‘get some toilet paper and shove it in our ears!!!! Almost hilarious Fawlty Towers style- if it wasn’t happening there and then. Breakfast the next day was buffet style which mirrored the slop from a school camp- terrible.

On return home, I called the hotel manager to voice my incredible disappointment. We were offered a return night stay (in an upgraded room) for a token price. He assured us that our stay was not typical and that on our return we would be pleasantly surprised. Well, the room (a suite) was much nicer- but sadly still felt cold, damp and worn. Service was still below average. We ordered room service breakfast the next day- hoping this may be the better option. WRONG!! The same terrible standard. Super large portions that lacked any resemblance of taste or freshness. It is actually an insult to be offered a bed and breakfast stay with such alarmingly poor food served.

So… both stays were terrible. Better if the manager hadn’t tried to convince us back- as it only cemented our overall disappointment.
Would not recommend. Warning: Do not get lured by the deals on offer….
