We have just returned from a seven day break with a large group.
We had a great break, large bedroom which was spotless, we found the food
excellent ( we did not receive a special menu for our group ) a very good choice of starters, main meals and what a choice of deserts!
Some of the carpets was very stained, could do with a good clean but due to the amount
of people that walked them it was understandable, especially as some people do not even bother to wipe their feet when coming in from the wet!
All in all a super holiday, if we go that way again We would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I booked a room as we were visiting Norwich for a wedding, we spent more than we would normally looking to treat ourselves with a bit of luxury. We probably would have got more luxury at a 3* B&B!
The room was shabby, dust on the window frames, holes in the net curtains, hooks missing so they were hanging down, stains on the carpet, bedding and furniture all for the grand price of £163 per night!
Breakfast was OK and all the public areas were lovely and set high expectations but the room was appalling.

My partner and I booked a two night stay at Dunston Hall through Travelzoo and got a great deal which included bed, breakfast, afternoon tea, evening meal and a bottle of wine. Dunston Hall is easy to find, very convenient for visiting Norwich, the Norfolf Broads and Great Yarmouth and is set within beautiful country park style grounds. For a relaxing break in a stunning location Dunston Hall was just what the doctor ordered. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room, in a new wing at the back of the hotel, was stylish, clean, roomy and very comfortable. Our package included a delicious afternoon tea, which we followed with a dip in the hotel pool. All very clean and relaxing, towels were provided which was very helpful. The bar prices weren't cheap but guess this is to be expected in a 4 star hotel. The three course cavery included was very tasty and served in the modern, bright brasserie. Breakfast offered lots of choice and set us up for the day. All in all I would definitely recommend Dunston Hall for a relaxing break and will definitely be returning soon.

Stayed here for 2 nights over half term week and managed to get a special two night rate with a discounted upgrade. We got an executive double room with two massive beds in a very quiet part of the hotel - we were on the ground floor so got the added bonus of french doors and patio furniture looking onto a small grassed area. Breakfast was good and all in all the hotel was really nice and ideal for a short break in Norwich/Broads.

Had a really nice stay here, with nothing bad to report. Lovely setting although most of the rooms are in a modern extension hidden by the big old frontage of the hotel, but all the same spacious clean and nicely decorated - the only thing I found it lacking was the mini bar! I would recommend it if u want a peaceful night with a nice meal.

We recently stayed in Dunston Hall after a last minute booking through Travelzoo. We took up the offer of a De Luxe room, which was located in the new part of the hotel, adjacent to the golf course. The room was large, with a very comfortable King sized bed.
The deal included a 3 course carvery meal at the Brasserie Bar, a surprisingly good afternoon tea and breakfast, along with a bottle of wine in your room.
The hotel has an excellent location, just a few minutes drive from the Park and Ride to the south of Norwich.
The swimming pool is larger than most hotel pools and the gym is large enough although the equipment has seen better days.
Parts of the hotel look a little dated but if you can get a deal and take up the option of one of the newer rooms, Dunston Hall offers very good value.

I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 14 year old son on Sunday 2nd May for one night. We had travelled down from Liverpool so had an ealry start and a long drive. As you can imagine after dinner we were a bit tired so decided to settle down and order the Sherlock Holmes movie from the In Room movie menus. When we tried to do this we firstly got a message saying the child lock was on and to ring reception. When we tried to order again as we had not put the child lock on we got anotehr message advising us to press 1 to viwe the movie already running. We did this thinking we had inadvertently ordered the movie and had got confused however we were all confronted by the most hard core pornorgraphic movie my husband and I had ever seen.As you can imagine we frantically turned the TV off which took longer than usual due to the remote not functioning correctly and the TV being very dated.
After we had got over the shock of this happening my husband rang reception to tell them what had happened.and they did try their best to reset the movies to our room and to remove the child lock. She did say they had reports from other guests saying the child lock was causing them issues also.Eventually the manager requested my husband meet him in the bar (!) to talk about the issue. After him initially being very suprised that the adult movie could be accessed with the child lock on he accompanied my husband back to our room where he experienced the same thing that had happened to us -yet again my son was in the room.Eventually a flustered manager had to make all movies unavailable to all residents in the hotel as he could not be sure no other children could inadvertently exposed as our son had been.He did offer us a drink but as it was nearly 10pm by this time and we were tired we declined his offer.
Upon check out we were given £40 off our bill and a discouted rate if we returned to be booked direct with the manager.

Now my husband and I are not narrow minded but if we wanted porn movies on our tv we would not take our 14 year old some with us.As you can imagine any teenager would be very embarrassed to experience this in the same room as his parents.Luckily we were able to take action as quicky as the outdated tv would allow us to.

It is unlikely we wlll go back to this De Vere hotel due to the distance we would have to travel-if it was closer too our area of the country we might consider this.We feel the hotel really didnt do enough to compensate us and our son and we are very suprised that a hotel in the De Vere range could have failed to ensure that such an important hotel facility was not correctly working especially as there were so many children in the hotel this particulare weekend.

Apart from this the best part of our stay was our al la carte meal in the Brasserie-we had steak risotto and mixed grill-the best we have had-the thick chips with the steak were fantastic and the veg accompanying the risotto was a nice touch.

The bed we had in our room hd seen better days and the feet end was higher than the head end.We had to ask twice for extra pillows and ended up with two doubles and two king size pillows !

The room was a bit dark but clean however all the mismatched carpets in the room and public areas could do with a really good vacuum and shampoo. The sink and vanity area of our room was ok but the shower and bath really need a revamp. The public areas were often very cold as the children were always running in and out of the fire exits in our area of the hotel ( room 424) and leaving them open.

Breakfast was ok-the usual hotel type-plenty of it but as usual the sausages and bacon were not very nice at all.Had to wait some time for tea and toast to be sent to the table also.We ate in the bar when we arrived-nothing special about the sandwiches provided-could have got better quality and cheaper if we had travelled to a nearby pub or coffee shop in Norwich.

We did not use the leisure facilites as to be honest we were put off by a lot of the comments we heard from guests in the hotel bearing in mind what we had read before going.

We have stayed in De Vere Carden Park and Dunstan Hall and it is hard to believe both these hotels are owned and run by the same company.

If I had paid more than the special rate we did to stay her I would have felt more agrieved especially with what happened with the in room movie fiasco,I would not stay again and would not stay in a De Vere with less than 5 stars in future. I have stayed in Premier Inns over the last two years were the room facilites, food quality, locations and value for money have been much better than the De Vere Dunstan Hall.

Such a shame as the outside and grounds are very impressive.I feel very sorry for the staff as when we checked out nearly everyone at the desk was moaning about one thing or another about their stay-this should not be allowed to happen in a De Vere hotel.

My advice to De Vere HQ is to close Dunstan and revamp asap and bring this hotel into the 21st century rather than leave it lingering in the late 1990s as it is now before people stop going altogether and staff lose their jobs.
