“Not a Four Star Ho”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2011

Stayed at this hotel for one night in Nov. 2011 (Thursday). The common areas are not very welcoming and need a good makeover. The corridor and stairs to our room, No. 65, were dark , tired and narrow with poor decor and lighting.
The room was just adequate for a 2 star hotel not a 4 star with a ripped chair and some stains on the outer bedding. The bathroom had a crack next to the door and the shower head cover was missing.
Tried to get a drink at the bar but there was only one staff on duty and there was a golf club group taking all his time ,gave up after ten minutes. The food was good.

Stopped here with friends for a golf weekend and the golfing facilities are excellent. Rooms are a bit tired looking and could do with being updated. My issues were with the service , the length of time it took between courses for our evening meal was about 90 minutes and at no stage did anyone come and ask about drinks which meant that we never had a drink for over 2 hours!
The service was no better during breakfast as there was also a wedding on and it was clearly very busy, however the hotel would have had plenty of notice of how many people there would be but instead some people were told they wouldn't get served.
Sort out the service and update the rooms and you will get so many more customers and make more money!

Room Tip: Make sure there is a fan in your room.

We stayed for one night only at this hotel. We had a family room which was large and had a double and two proper single beds. The overal stay was excellent, the hotel has excellent facilities - pool, tennis courts, spa, restaurant, sports bar, golf. Great for a family get together or group. Friends also staying there commented on small food portions in the restaurant but we didn't eat there so can't comment on that ourselves. I would recommend highly and hope to return.

We stayed here on a £99 Bed breakfast and dinner deal. Our room was clean and spacious with plenty of storage space and a good sized bathroom - nothing special and unfortunately poorly appointed near the stairs so a bit noisy but the bed was comfy and the bed linen soft and warm.

The hotel itself is nothing to write home about - a little dated and spread out in a funny sort of way. The communual areas are clean and tidy but there is no WOW factor in any of them. We didn't use the SPA or leisure facilities although they were included in our package. We had a look though and they looked clean and well looked after.

Reception staff were friendly and efficient and check in and check out was quick and straightforward.

The star of the show here is the food in Flints Restuarant. We were really suprised at the quality of the food on the dinner menu which was perfectly cooked, well presented and excellent value for money. A good wine list that wasn't too pricey and pretentious was also welcome.

Service was a tad slow in the evening - there appeared to be a few young and inexperienced waiting staff but it was always friendly and not overbearing. Breakfast service was alot quicker and a very substantial breakfast spread was provided. The full english was huge!

All in all a good value break if you can get it for under £100. We would go again just for the food!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the stairs

We were invited to stay here for a family birthday celebration. After paying 150 pounds to stay for a night with breakfast we had high hopes of a nice time. What a huge let down!
The staff on reception were so matter of fact and unhelpful. The stairways up to our room were no better than a backpackers hostel. The room was DISGUSTING with dirty carpets, mould round the bath along with splashes of paint, a difficult to flush toilet, stains on the bedding, a view out of a high window of a roof and marks on the furniture. The decor was so outdated and the room had quite nasty smell!
I was so disappointed and I know that other people I was staying with felt the same. Just disappointed that I'd spent so much money when that amount would usually get you somewhere nice to stay!!! AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't stay here as it is terribly overpriced

I booked a special spa weekend for myself and my girlfriend. I chose the Barnham Broom because it was 4 star and offered so many facilities in one place. We booked suite 25 which sounded amazing. When we arrived the reception just booked us in without and up front information which is what you normally get as standard as I travel with work frequently. Even in Premier Travel Inns when you don't need it! I had to ask what time the restaraunt opened and where the Spa was, what time check out was and what time breakfast was open. We went to our suite which on first glance was great, nice King Size bed with fresh linen, flat screen TV with DVD player, Lounge area with another Flat Screen TV and DVD, Double Bathroom with Shower, Bath, 2 sinks and toilet. So did have a wow factor. This was soon lost when we found rubbish down the side of the dresser which was covered in dust and the carpets where filthy. Marks where all over the sloped ceilings. Dust thickly covered everything which I began writing in on a regular basis (Check the comments Barnham Broom :). Luckily we where there for one night only and soon relaxed with an excellent massage and facial. Back in the room for a shower only to find the door wouldn't close properly and the water was way too hot with no way of cooling it down, the bath was also too hot as the tap was broken and only delivered scorching hot water. OK all showered ready for a relaxing meal in the Flints Restaraunt. Eventually we where shown to our table after being told the table may not be ready. We ordered Partrige for myself and Pork and Chicken Terrine for my girlfriend, Main we both went for the Lamb with Mini Sheppherds Pie. All the food was very nice, however we had to wait for 3/4 hour for the starter to arrive. The desserts where also very nice. The next morning after a very cold night in the room we went down to breakast. The Poached Eggs where made with white vinegar, so the breakfast chef had very low standards, Hash brown overcooked and the state of the flints in the daylight was very apparent. Flies everywhere because there was more food on the floor than the plates! the place is in desperate need of decoration all the way through the hotel. The carpets all need cleaning with stains apparent all the way down the corridoors and restaraunt. Looking back in the room dead flies littered the window ledges. So I paid £188 for one night with Masssage and Facial for us both and endded up with a 2 star quality suite. I've left this feedbac with the hotel, but I'm guessing it will have the same attention that we did, which is why I post it here for you. I don't usually write reveiews about hotels unless they are brilliant or they are terrible this one is clearly the latter. I will be reviewing other hotels on here on the future I'll keep you posted.
