The Rambutan is an amazing resort with all the features you might expect from a much more expensive place. The rooms are spacious and elegant, the two pools are lovely and the grounds are lush and colorful with flowers and art. While it may be showing its age and some of the design elements verge on the kitsch (check out the black bathroom stone walls with pebble flowers!) all it lacks is an army of staff in fancy uniforms! There were only a handful of other guests when we were there so the family that runs the place had it easily under control. Food and service was great and everything was reasonably priced. I really loved how it was only a few steps away from the bars and restaurants of the seafront, but was truly a peaceful retreat where you can relax! I loved the room mini bar stacked with cold drinks at no mark up: means you can stay on your balcony and chill for as long as you like.....

We've just spent 4 days at this hotel and loved every minute of it. It's location is great (walking distance to the beach and away from the main road), rooms are spacious, v clean and comfortable and set in a tropical garden paradise. Pools and restaurant facilities are tops, on site spa/massage options at really reasonable prices (eg 1 hr Bali massage approx $13A) there are playground options for kids and lots of nearby warungs to eat at - again really cheaply. A top spot to relax and regenerate - especially if you come here after the craziness of 'down South' !! The owners live on site and keep things ticking over very well.

The Rambutan is perfectly located close to the beach and eating areas of Lovitan. The suites are large and comfortable with traditional Balinese architecture throughout. The beds are large and comfortable and unit facilities great for the family. The grounds are spectacular as are the pools and open air restaurant area. We dined in the restaurant each breakfast (which is included in the tariff) and for some other meals and enjoyed the well prepared range of food, at cheap prices, on the menu. The most impressive part of the hotel was the quality of service provided by the staff. When booking, all questions were answered quickly and informatively by Richard, the owner, from prices and availability to airport transfers and visa costs. The reception staff, grounds people and restaurant workers were super friendly and keen to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, performing their duties quietly and efficiently. Booking tours or transport was easy through the hotel office, as was changing money at good rates. The spa centre provides an extensive range of massage and beauty options as well.
The hotel is ideally located near the beach and with dining, shopping and tour options immediately outside. We found Lovina a lovely holiday location with many tour options, particularly the diving on the spectacular reefs close by.
Overall this is an excellent hotel, great value for money with terrific staff who made our week there one to remember.

The hotel is well situated a couple of hundred yards from the beach. You cnnot sit on the beach, it is too grimy, so that is not a problem. The hotel has 2 beautiful pools, set in particulalry beautiful gardens. The owner was in reception when I arrived and welcomed me in perfect English. Breakfast is served in an open restaurant, beside the pool. Breakfast is 'adequate'. There are a range of rooms from moderate, to very luxurious.

What is nice is that within 100 yards of the hotel are a good selection of reasonably priced bars and restaurants - a main course is about $2.50 US and a large beer $2.50 US.

Lovina is small, you walk down one road of shops / bars, along the beach 100 yards and then back up another road of bars etc. 3 days max.

I have now travelled a lot in Bali. Ubud - 4 / 5 days max. Candi Dasa - don't bother, nothing there, not even a beach. Amed - nothing there at all, unless you want to dive. It is a just a few houses and back packer hotels. Lovina - 3 days max, very small. Permuteran - a hotel graveyard, absolutely nothing there. Soka beach, a pit stop for the long distance coaches. Kintamani, stay inside the crater, by the lake - maximum 48 hours, to climb Mount Batur and recover. Munduk - another place with nothing whatsoever there !

Room Tip: If you want luxury, you can have it, but if you choose budget, you still have all the facilities of the hotel

I stayed in a budget room (fan only but almost half price) and found it pleasant and great value for money. The grounds are nicely landscaped, it's got a big pool, and it's in a great location just minutes from the seaside and with lots of dining options in the immediate surroundings. The restaurant looks very pleasant next to the pool, very pretty after dark and hardly a dollar more expensive than the shacks outside. Others here have praised it but my mixed seafood wasn't to my taste at all and came with vegetables that were even less so. The fried banana was also very unimpressive. Staff was nice and helpful. I'd stay here again.
