“What a place!”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

Leaving our luxurious villa in Ubud we were nervous about what we were to find at the Damai. However we were not disappointed to say the least. I could boast about great service but that wouldn’t be sufficient, that’s what you receive in most top end hotels in Bali. The Damai however is an experience in itself. Bamboo Straws for your drinks and cinnamon sticks to stir your coffee. Everything has been thought about in such detail. We stayed in a pool studio. Our room was spacious, airy, clean and decorated wonderfully. Stepping out of our room to our infinity pool the view is breath taking. We had dinner on arrival served in our room. The food was tasty however we were disappointed our tom yum was served cold. That night we heard our neighbours next door in the early hours of the morning which disturbed our sleep a little however thankfully they checked out the next day :) Fresh fruit at breakfast was a real delight and the coffee was the best we had in Bali. A 30 minute massage was offered to us as we were honeymooners and we were given a lovely gift on our departure. A wonderful place!
Headscarf note - The Pool Studio is perfect for any Muslim women wearing a hijab or veil looking for total privacy. The studio is secluded and covered by trees.

Room Tip: the Pool Studio has a great infinity pool and gorgeous interior. Although be sure to ask whether the...

we spent a week in may 2014 in The Damai, Lovina. yes, the site is marvellous with the view on the ocean and jungle from the pool, with the restricted number of guests, with the silence, with the great quality of service, with the shuttles to go to Lovina, etc.
But ONE THING that you should not miss is the FOOD. Driven by a Danish chef (he was there this time, he's such a nice person) who spent 7 years with Paul Bocuse in Lyon, it's a wonderfull mix of Balinese and westen cuisine, all done from ingredients from their own garden or organic farmers nearby. UNFORGETABLE! Yes The Damai is difficult to leave.

The Damai certainly offers luxurious accommodation. We travelled with 2 teenage children and it was not the ideal place for us. We found the staff were professional but we didn't feel at home. A lovely resort but we were looking to be immersed in the Balinese culture. The food however was absolutely amazing and we would dine there again if in Lovina. The spa treatments were excellent and priced fairly in relation to the style of accommodation. Great for those who just want to laze by the pool and indulge in spa treatments and eat amazing food.

This review is a bit tardy, but I can't recommend this resort enough. My family, for a total of four people, stayed in the three bedroom villa in July 2013, and the whole vacation was resplendent. The food was delicious for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The view and pool were so great, often we didn't feel up to leaving the villa and instead took advantage of room service frequently to maximize relaxation. The staff was so kind and thoughtful. We had some special circumstances, too -- two of our family members came down with what the doctor dubbed "Bali belly." The general manager, a staff member whose name I believe was Eva (or something similar), and the doctor himself were all wonderfully helpful, from providing instructions and medicine to sending up porridge and lots of water often. When we were all able to venture to the resort restaurant, staff members whom we did not even meet checked up on our sick individuals personally.

Overall, everyone at the Damai was perfectly lovely and attentive. The accommodations were first class. The shuttle service and drivers themselves were what I expected them to be, which was fine. The actual location of the resort pleased all of us -- we prefer lounging by the pool and taking in the beautiful scenery. The Damai is kind of on the mountainside and from our villa we could see the beach down below. (The beach wasn't even all that impressive. Go into town for the cultural experience, though.) The vans providing the ride from the airport to the resort (due to traffic and the uphill nature of the route, a 6-hour drive there, but back to the airport the duration was cut in half) included a cold towel and water bottles. Also, we had two vans with two people (not including the driver) in each, so the rides were definitely comfortable. The general manager was particularly impressive, and he and my father actually got on quite well, having backgrounds that include extensive travel. He even gifted us a tour to the hot springs and temple. The temple was a notable high point of the trip.

Almost a year later, this trip and the Damai resort still get top marks from all the members of the family. We hope to return again one day!

Room Tip: In my opinion, the raja villa -- the only one with three bedrooms, if I'm not mistaken -- is wel...

I stayed in Damai in "villa tirta" for 2 weeks with my boyfriend and my 7 month year old baby. Its the Best 2 weeks I have had for a long time. The villa was beautiful and the private pool was amazing. We ate almost all our meals at Damai and its the Best food we have had in Bali. The staff is friendly and will help you with anything. I would highly recommend Damai to everyone who is going to Bali, its the Best!!

we were at the damai in jan for our honeymoon. we had planned to start our trip from the damai reading the reviews and seeing the pics...and it lived up to our expectations and beyond...of all the places we visited in bali, damai was the best in all respects. the hotel has lush green gardens and beautiful walkways. we were in the pool studio villa umah naga which has a breathtaking view. the locale, the ambiance, the villa architecture and decore are all excellent. the antiques and hardwood interiors give a very nice touch...the large veranda and the infinity pool is aweeesome...!!! the staff was also very polite and courteous and helpful. the manager mr menon was always around and ensured that we had a wonderful stay. we stayed for 2 nights...and dint have a heart to check out...
will surely stay at damai if we happen to go to bali again...!!!

if you visit bali...you HAVE to stay at the damai.

Room Tip: umah naga has a breathtaking view
