“Best place to stay in Amboseli and truly amazing”
Reviewed 19 August 2009

We stayed two nights in Amboseli Serena in early August 2009.
It turned out to be definitely of the best locations we stayed in Kenya and Tanzania.
We received warm and friendly welcome, and were accommodated in a large and cozy room with all facilities of 4/5 star hotel. We really enjoyed the food there and actually every minute we spent there.
Amboseli Serena has also a souvenir shop with very competitive prices.
An absolutely great place to stay during honeymoon tour.

We stayed there for 3 nights on our honeymoon, before going to Zanzibar, and we were very impressed by the comfort and the staff! The food is excellent and we did also participate on a dinner which was a few hundred meters away from the lodge, where we could se animals pass few meters away during the night. The entertainment was locally Masai dancers. And least but not last, the location is excellent with only few minutes drive to see thousands of animals, that is elephants, giraffes, lions, sebras, gepards, hippos etc. Thank you for an amazing honeymoon, we'll never forget you!

This is a first class, fabulously managed lodge that exceeded all expectations. Our party of 9 family members (3 generations) considered this to be the best lodge during four weeks of safari, in Africa.

From the immediate warm welcome on arrival, of cold beverage and face washer, we were quickly allocated our rooms and briefed on the lodge. The gardens of the lodge were a kaleidescope of coloured and textured plants which ensured it was a pleasure walking back to the room. Even the monkeys were entertaining.

From the fabulous staff, to plentiful and excellent buffet selections, to the beautiful colouring of the African Themed Guest Rooms, it lifted the bar to an extremely high level for every other lodge we visited.

Breakfast was a treat, with the resident chef ready to cook omelettes or eggs to your requirements. Lunch and Dinner also included the chef for additional pasta requirements.

Local Masaii were available to chat

The hotel also included a pool, a highly recommended beauty therapist for a relaxing massage, the best hotel gift shop (in 4 weeks of travelling) with genuine affordable not to be "ripped off" pricing. We recommend Masaii purchases from the gift shop as the local village we visited disgusted us with the ridiculously inflated prices eg $170 US for a few trinkets. Gift shop about $10 US for the same thing. The stock in the store was clean and beautifully finished. A currency exchange counter was also available.

Pre-dinner drinks offerred a magnificent outlook with the odd zebra, wilderbeest, gazelle etc wandering on to the hotel grounds. The monkeys offerred some entertainment for the children, close to the accommodation area.

Rooms accomodate two persons cosily, however we did have a decent size bathroom which included bath and shower

Game was plentiful at Amboseli. Kilimanjaro shone in its full magnificence, late afternoon on the three nights we were there. One of the highlights of Kenya....not to be missed.

We congratulate the management and staff of this lodge for ensuring our stay was so well enjoyed and we would recommend to everyone. It is truly a first class establishment in the true sense of lodge accommodation.

Our very first safari and we are so glad that we began our experience at Amboseli Serena! The entire staff at the lodge treats you like a VIP. It was "first class" all the way (even though we flew economy). The hotel staff is courteous, friendly, informative and cannot do enough for you. Our room was beautifully decorated, very clean and very comfortable. The food was remarkable - delicious and bountiful. Kudo's to the Executive Chef and his amazing staff! Our driver/tourguide, Victor, was the best! A courteous, thoughtful and very smart man who made sure we saw as many animals/birds on our safari drives as could be found during our short stay. (Yes, he did find us lions!) Victor made our safari drives so much more interesting/educational by sharing his knowledge/info/insights on the wildlife. At night you can sit and sip wine on the veranda as you watch a parade of wild life walk right past the lodge grounds. TIP: Do take a short trip to one of the nearby Masai villages. There is a small fee but you will learn alot about the culture and be entertained by song and dance. (Great photo ops.)Just know that there will be a hard sell of crafts/beadwork by members of the tribe at the end of your visit so be prepared with cash and the ability to graciously say "no, thanks" when you've exhausted your reserves.

This Serena is fantastic. We had a fantastic room with king bed facing Mt. Kilimanjaro. The authentic African/Maasai design and decoration both inside the room and out was beautiful. Room was spotless and felt brand new. Bed was fabulous and room was very nice. Bathroom - excellent. The small touches were noticed and gave it the extra punch. Lodge itself is just plain neat and you just feel like you are in the best place on earth. Very good animal viewing area from veranda area and at night we saw Water Buck and hyenas, zerbras and more. Lodge has a very nice African theme which blends so well with the location and has a very beautiful casual elegance. Food is very good and the buffet is very professional and well done. Lovely dining experience with ambiance and that "I am on safari" feel. The Serena provided excellent game drives and Victor our guide was adorable and had the eye of a hawk. Same amazing animals with him and seeing Kilimanjaro at sunset is something everyone on earth should experience. Perfect location for seeing animals at their best as the lush swamps are very close by which are fed by the melt waters of Kilimanjaro. I lived in Kenya as a child and my memories of Amboseli are strong. It was so wonderful to come back and our experience was a 10 out of 10. Zero complaints or even concerns. Excellent staff. Joseph the Maasai representative is a wonderful person to get to know and he is always happy and willing to assist. Loved the nature walk and learned a lot and the night bush supper was very cool to do as well. Beautiful pool and the lodge is very well kept and very well run. Extremely helpful and attentive staff. I have no idea what room has no view and how that person could say staff were distant as they are not and Kenyans are gracious by nature. It was an honor to return to Kenya and Amboseli is a gem among gems. Seeing Kilimanjaro smiling behind a herd of elephants and some giraffes is something you don't get to do every day. You will love Amboseli and it is just as special as The Mara (see both for sure) and the Serena is truly the only place to stay and you will not be disappointed. Serenas run a tight ship and their top level of service and comfort can be depended on always. We stayed two nights and ate like kings and slept like babies. The huge variety and extend of wildlife was mezmerizing and to not fall in love with this place is impossible. You will leave changed and you will leave knowing you have experienced true beauty and nature. The Serena truly has no negatives and your experience will be one you remember and cherish. Enjoy and enjoy one of the best countries in the world.

This is a Serena lodge, so you will not be disappointed. The service is good, although not as personal as some of the smaller camps. The rooms are very nice and comfortable with good views over the plains. The food is good, buffet style like most lodges. There is a pool but we didn't use it - too busy watching the animals. The bar area is very nice, just don't have any crisps/nuts on the balcony or you will have to fight off the monkeys!

Amboseli is THE place to see elephants - there are literally hundreds of them, and there is a lake where you can watch them bathing, wading etc.. There are the other usual animals as well of course, and lots of them, but it's the elephants that make Amboseli so special.

I would thoroughly recommend any Serena lodge, they really have a very good standard. If you like elephants then Amboseli is a must, as is a visit to The David Sheldrick elephant orphanage in Nairobi ( http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/about_us.asp ) which is a truly fantastic experience - especially if you adopt one and get to feed it yourself.

We will definitely go back to Amboseli & use the Serena again.
