“Mini R&R paradise... just a stone's thow away from Davao city”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Interesting as it may seem, for just like a cab ride of 20-25mins,away from Davao City, you are at the Pearl Farm Port and another 2 hours boat ride, you're in a relaxing island of it's own. As you approach it at first sight...it's beautiful 'cause you first set your eyes on the resort's parola hut. But glancing to the left are evidence of shanties, residences of the Samal island locals. (I thought I'd mention it just for info, I didn't know about it & it came as a big shock seeing the contrast, but nothing else after that). Then as you get to the resort...everything seems to be well maintained with manicured lawns of greenery. Since there was just my husband & I, we decided to book in a Samal house. A quaint nipa hut cottage by the sea, very relaxing, a great R&R choice. They have several other cottages & accomodation choices so check out their website http://www.pearlfarmresort.com for room & view preference, as well as rates before you book. For a big family...I suggest the Malipano villas! Those are really beautiful with stunning views of the open sea & a private beach too! As for activities...it's quite limited, so a short stay of 2-3 days is just about perfect. Ample buffet servings with varied choices for breakfast & dinner, the seafood being the best & fresh. Fantastic sundown (50% discount) during happy hour at the Parola bar... and I'm mostly talking about the sunset & the view from here. It's the perfect spot to park, way before (or even after) dinner. Elongated golf cart to transport us around the island, the old-timer driver from Bohol standing out as a great source of history/stories about the resort. They have 3 swimming pools to choose from, while their Infinity pool stays open 'til late night. The beach area is clean & offers a good swim in too. And since we got tired out by our 2 day's activity of swimming, snorkelling, boating & trekking... right after our nightcap, we opted to walk back to our cottage hand in hand. Stayed by the balcony of our Samal house, happy & contented. We had our fill of the resort & it's time to head back home fully RESTED & RELAXED! We got exactly what we came for! Thumbs up! :)

Room Tip: Malipano villas in Malipano island for big family & great stunning view of the open sea! Samal...

I could not stress enough the best Filipino service we got from this resort. From the airport to their private marina, and into the island .We were welcomed by refreshers and the beautiful smiles of the staff. We initially had the rooms by the water, but we immediately upgraded to the samal suites with no fuss. This is very homey and everything is taken care of. We enjoyed the all inclusive food from breakfast to dinner. The Infinity pool was also breathtaking especially in the morning as we partake our breakfast in the restaurant.
We were served our own private dinner by the ocean, romantic set up arranged appropriately by the staff. Since it was my partner's birthday, they also provided him with our own private lunch in the shore. What a better way to celebrate his special day.
I love the pampering provided in the spa...so relaxing. We crossed the other island by kayak, and we enjoyed the exclusivity of the place. We felt like we owned the island. This is a perfect place away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Certainly surpassed my expectations and will come back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended. If you prefer less people, go during non peak season.

Top Service. "Secret escape" near of Davao City. Choice a house that you like. Samal houses are near to the two pools and the nice restaurant. Use the shuttle service to the other island too. Book a Promotion or a longer stay at SM Davao City.

Room Tip: Samal House

Value for money is on day trip package. I intially wanted an overnight stay becauae they say the resort is one of a kind, good thing the resort is fully booked so my only option is day trip. I agree with other travellers...it is over rated if you'll get at least an overnight stay. Room cost apx 12k!!! After 6 hours you'll get bored.
In my opinion, get the day trip package first to see for yourself 2,500/pax inclusive of boat transfers, buffet lunch, & beach towel use. If you really like it, then book a room on your next visit. At least you have set exepectations already less risk of being dissapointed.

Pros:
Newly renovated facilities (new tiles, new wood linens etc)
Ample food choices in buffet
Friendly staff
Timely departure and arrival

Cons:
Orientation at the pearl farm boat before departure, then orientation again upon arrival at the resort. What the heck! Why dont you combine the orientation it's the same listeners anyway.
Mandaya beach front is very rocky.
Trash from the houses before the resorts property...it's an eye sore.
ONE (1) SHOWER ONLY FOR DAY TRIP GUESTS. I wonder why they can't add shower rooms.

Will I go back? Yes. Day trip only. I would rather spend that kind of money in Boracay or Palawan.

We've been in this resort couple of times and it didnt failed to amaze us,Staff were very polite, approachable and friendly. Facilities well improved, and they even surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake for my son.
Except for the food, low quality.:( management should upgrade their ala carte menu, ever since the first time we went to this place the menu never changed, expensive food and not hefty in serving.(very pricey)food quality is just so so average.:( Restaurant set up was better before, than the new set up today.as well as the buffet was much better before than what it is today.

Guests are expecting to have very good quality of food, knowing that this is one of the philippines' dream destination.

Nice and quiet resort. Ü good buffet breakfast. Had a nice time snorkeling. Malipano island and villa is also beautiful with modern furnishings. Not much to do though except to enjoy and cherish the tranquility of the island. Wish there are more food choices and activities in the island.
