Woodend Beach Holiday Park
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We booked a cabin and were quite disappointed with what we got for the price at Woodend. The cabin was ample in size but stank of strong bleach. As it was mid-winter, heating was vital and the little fan heater supplied was only just enough to heat the room but due to lack of insulation in the unit, it has to be on all night and was very noisy. The facilities in the holiday park were very basic, especially the kitchens. All had been cleaned with the same strong bleach and the smell was overpowering in some places. The park appears to be permanent accommodation for many and cars could be heard leaving the park from pre-6am. Although the holiday park was well located close to Christchurch and beach, I'll doubt we'll be staying again.

This is a nice quite and friendly place to camp. Stayed over Xmas and New Year and there were no hassle's and We could relax with ease. The beach is within a easy walk for young or old. The grand kids loved the place with the playgrounds, walks through the forest and plenty of room to ride their bikes.

This is a return visit to the woodend beach motorcamp. They have two cabins (only). The cabins are clean and well supplied with a jug/kettle, toaster, small fridge, plates and cutlery, and a pot and frying pan. You need your own bedding, t-towel and washing up detergent. There is short walk to the kitchens and bathrooms which are shared. I only paid $45 for myself to stay the night, which makes it very economical. It is half way between nelson and dunedin, so a good place to break a journey.

Room Tip: Check what is supplied (pots, toaster etc) before you plan what to eat for meals.

I stayed in the most basic accomodation of all - an unpowered tent site.

Facilities were spotless - particularly the kitchen area which looks like someone must regularly clean them during the day.

The beach is short walk through a forestry belt, and is a stunning beach, with few people on it.

Showers costs $1 for 5 minutes of hot water.

My only complaint was someone started up some music about 11pm - not much you can do about it, and that's camping for you I guess.

There are a shops about 5 minutes drive away - just ask the super friendly front desk staff for directions.

I stayed a night in a cabin at the woodend beach motor camp. I was impressed with the comfortable beds and lovely woodland/beach setting. It was quiet (it was not the school/summer holidays). I would stay there again...it is a nice distance for a day's drive from Picton or Blenheim or Nelson. I was glad not to have to drive into the city at the end of my day. I recommend it for basic accomodation with shared bathroom and kitchen areas.

Room Tip: There are only two basic cabins, so ask what is supplied (eg. need your own bedding).
