We stayed here unfortunately for only one night. We stayed in a cottage, three bedrooms, we only needed one.Nice and spacious rooms. Heating and Swedish oven installed if needed. Very lovely area and quite remote.A bit of history here. Driving over Arthur's Pass is just beautiful and to prolong the journey, one should stay here, There is nothing nearby. No cellphone coverage. Internet possible with a small charge. There are also backpacker rooms available. Choice for breakfast is good. Dinner and specials were simple, but well cooked.
The sandflies are pests, but aren't they everywhere?

I spent the weekend at Flock Hill staying in one of the three bedroom Lockwood cottages. Very comfy and warm once the gas heater was fired up. Ample parking and very roomy. Possibly a bit under-lit in the lounge kitchen area as the lit was a bit dull for reading. It's possibly time for a small refresh of the units but no big deal, we were there for the environment.

We ate in the restaurant and the food there was great, my rib was perfectly done medium rare and the Thai Chicken salad great also. Staff very friendly.

After some very small hotel rooms we were delighted to stay in a rustic cabin. These cabins have loads of room to move around, a fire place (GAS) and a lounge room to relax in. While they are a bit shabby (knobs for gas cooktop a little melted) and even a bit soiled overall its a country experience. The bathrooms were clean, the bed was comfy and it was nice to wake up to snow. We used this place just to stop over before catching a flight home. We didnt fancy another night back in Christchurch. Sadly we didnt get to walk around, but it looked like a nice place to kick back. Campers arrived at midnight and camped pretty close to our cabin and woke us, which was odd, given the hour and rain. We ate at their restaurant and the food was good and honest. They told us of a company we could use for 5 dollars to get wi fi,which we did. Be prepared its rustic/comfortable camping type accomodation. Ideal for groups wanting to stay together.

Very remote but just so peaceful! So pleasant to be woken by the birds in the morning. Everything about this location was very layed back. Some good walks around the area.

Stunning location, you wont believe the surreal views! My husband and I both agreed that it was the true kiwi experience we've been craving. Unforgettable. You can mountain bike, go for beautiful walks, go trout fishing, hunting, or caving near by. The lodge and rooms are simple & charming and I really enjoyed the fact that they had a fully equipped kitchen.

Back at Flock Hill for our second visit, for the same reason as last time - a mountain bike event. This is a fabulous location. I went just to relax - I had a date with my book while hubby participated in the event. The scenery is magnificent. We stayed in a motel unit - very comfortable except for the electric blanket - can feel it through the bedding. The staff are generally pretty nice and friendly. Little hiccup with the freezer while we were there so the manager of the day was a bit frazzled - perhaps needs to learn to not portray that to the guests - cos really we don't care and it is part of business. Also combination of waiting staff - couple fantastic, one needs more training. There was a table beside us that were ready to walk out, she just didn't capture them. In saying that though, our food was awesome - could have done with some vegetables $36 (maybe it was $32 can't remember but still....) for steak and then having to pay extra for veges is a bit over the top.
All in all though, we love this place and will be back next year.

Room Tip: we like the motel units, just because only two of us. Plenty of room to spread out and the views ov...

Just a couple of hours drive from Christchurch the lodge is situated among stunning surroundings. On arrival, check in at the restaurant. We were in cabin #3. The comfortable living room overlooked the pond and the mountains. The four bedrooms could sleep 10. Very spacious for the two of us!

We ate in the restaurant. The lamb was from their own stock, and you could taste the freshness. The wines were also excellent.

It is highly recommended that you take the seven minute walk up to ‘the Knoll’ for wonderful views over the hill station and the lake. The track starts just to the left of the tumbled down wooden building. If you like peace, beauty, and nature this location is a good choice.
