“poor service”
Reviewed 13 May 2013

We visited for a special occasion....what a shame we hadnt read the reviews on all of the restaurant review websites first. The service was terrible and did not stack up with the prices being charged. The waitress did not smile once, had no idea about the menu and did not seem interested in us even after we complained about the poor service.
Having children serve food to customers is not cute its bad form, small portions, lack of knowledge about the wines (at a winery) and to top it all off cold coffee slopped in the saucer with no apology.
Would never recommend this winery or visit again.

“Lovely but needs attention to detail!”
Reviewed 9 April 2013

We were invited to and attended a lovely wedding of friends at Melton Estate. The ceremony, reception and dancing were held at the same venue. The day was lovely, the outside chapel area ideal for the ceremony, the lawns lovely for sitting around socialising while the formal photos were being taken and the dining area great for the reception. One of the wait staff was particularly unhappy and unfreindly which was a shame, the canapes left a bit to be desired but the food for the reception was good and well prepared. However it was sad that with such a lovely venue and lovely garden plantings the gardens had not been weeded and there was dandelions etc growing amoungst the lavender and buxus hedge - just seemed that the attention to detail was not important and yet had such a bearing on the impression of the place. It would have maybe been an hours work for great results.

“Wedding”
Reviewed 18 February 2013

This place needs new owners.....owners who know the meaning of service!!!!
As a wedding venue it is a great setting with the outside chapel and the surrounding vines. The food was a buffet and was of a good standard.

Our issues started early on though.
-We arranged a time with Phillip the owner to have a look around and chat about the venue. When we arrived he was on a phone conference and Tracey was not around eithier. We spoke to one of their staff who was setting up tables and we were told to have a look around. After waiting for half an hour we walked out.
-We decided to use the venue for our wedding, we then had a meeting with Tracey at 11am to discuss arrangements and it looked as though she had just got out of the shower. We had no communication from her until we asked when they wanted final numbers etc.
-We booked a time for a rehersal and when we arrived Tracey was busy with another couple planning their wedding. We were also told we couldn't use the chapel as there was people still eating lunch even though we had arranged at time!! We didn't see Tracey the whole time we were having our rehersal and once done walked out.
-We received the invoice for the hire of the venue/meal but this was incorrect as she had charged us the venue hire price for 80 guest and over when we had 65 guests.
-On the wedding day before my wife came down the aisle she was a bit emotional and Tracey's answer to this was to punch her in the hip!! At the end of the ceremony we had glasses of wine thrusted into our hands when we didn't even ask for and we ended up dumping them so we could greet our family and friends.
-The buffet was served by her children which was very unproffessional as they were both primary school aged.
-She then mucked up our first dance music and eventually I had to go and sort it out after standing on the dance floor waiting.
-After the wedding we were then sent another invoice with no explanation email as to what the invoice was for. When we queried it we were told that it was for the wedding party which she hadn't included in the numbers even though it was clearly stated on her planning form. Again the invoice was incorrect though as she had charged for nibbles even though we didn't have nibbles as we were away having photos taken.

Again great venue but the service, communication and owners organisation is serverly lacking.

“Girls Lunch 28th July”
Reviewed 29 July 2012

Melton Estate was decided on for 12 of us to do lunch. The loction & venue is very nice. The staff on arrival gave us a warm welcome, pointed us to our table which was in front of a log fire..very nice. It was an 1130 start for us & only another lot of 12 at the same time. 1 Waitress for 24 people.
Waitress came for our drinks order & stood at the head of the table. Us down the end were busy talking & turned round to put in drinks order & she had gone. She had not come down to each person. Just stood at the head of the table, I guess I was expected to shout out what I wanted maybe.
Next came our entree orders. The popular options were not available as out of season as they were using a Summer menu. Thought it was winter!!
She did not get our attention & say what was not available, or what the veges were with the mains, so had to repeat herself several time. When the veges did come out, they appeared to be a frozen mix. Would of been nice to have a sauce for these. But nothing like that provided, or offered.
I decided on the the Pork fillet thinking good Kiwi pork. My husband had cooked me Pork fillets a couple of time, & they were very tender & delicious. Can't say the same for this Pork. Was a bit overcooked. Tasted ok, but still disappointing.
Then came dessert. I had the Sticky Date & Apricot pudding..with Caramel sauce. This I enjoyed. Most of the other girls ordered Slice & coffee.
They were trying fo find out from the waitress what the slice actually was. This was a bit of a battle. She couldn't really say exactly what it was...?? ginger crunch, fly cemetry what could it be???
Well. Turns out was Sticky Date & Apricot pud, & was a loaf, not a slice & was burnt to boot.. So about 4 were sent back.
Over this time, we were not asked if wanted any drinks. I had to ask twice for another glass of wine.
When the "slices" went back, the Management never once came to us to apologise.
Nobody asked us if we enjoyed our meals. This would be a first. Usually you have a waitress asking you how things are during a meal.
I guess by this time as apparently we had been described " as being the worst table". (this was overheard by one of the girls from our group) that we had be written off. So no apologises received from Management when we paid our bills. So all in all quite a disappointing lunch with slow service. Just as well we are not a tipping society.
I won't be rushing back there again, or recommending it to anyone.
