We struck gold when a last minute change to our holiday plans left me trawling the net for a vacancy. Couldn't believe it when the very dates we wanted were available, due to a cancellation that very morning. We couldn't have chosen a better place. We stayed in Sparrow Cottage. Open the front door from a large grassed area and patio with chairs and table, straight into the lounge/diner/kitchen which is just lovely, walk through to a fabulous bathroom with shower (took us awhile to regulate the temperature!) and bedroom which looks out over the fields in the morning with the sun streaming in. A welcome pack of local biscuits, tea and coffee - which is roasted on the premises, were waiting for us and a lovely vase of roses which lasted the week.
The cottage is well stocked with pots, pans etc and there's a good supply of DVD's if you chose a night in.
There are nice walks around and you can walk to the local shop and pub (which we didn't rate that much. Visit Dorchester and the Blue Raddle for a good pint and good food)
If you want peace and quite this is the place for you, but it is in the perfect position for Weymouth, along to Swanage and even Lyme Regis for the day. Fabulous.

We stayed in the charming Kingfisher cottage which has been tastefully converted. Downstairs is spacious & although one of the bedrooms is small upstairs it has a cosy feeling.

The owners are very friendly & have put in a lot of effort into the presentaion & equipping of the cottage - thoughtful touches such as having an OS map & a torch available. My mother particularly enjoyed the welcome pack of Dorset biscuits.

This is an ideal location if you want to get away from the hectic pace of life but it is also close to both Dorchester & Weymouth.

This was a cosy cottage, very well stocked. The owners provided small packets of Dorset tea and even roasted coffee (a venture of their son's). Basics such as cooking oil, small container of milk and salt/pepper were aplenty. Living-Cooking-Dining area is open plan and small, but as I said, cosy and not at all uncomfortable. Cottage was very warm, the fireplace is tempermental, they did warn us, but we tried to light it anyway and the owners, though skeptical, brought us wood. The second bedroom has child-size bunk beds so if you are three adults, as we were, you might want to persuade the shortest to sleep in the bunk beds.

I have stayed at Holcombe Valley Cottages - in Robins Nest - five times, and wouldn't choose to go anywhere else in Dorset. It is a delightful place, beautifully situated and wonderfully tranquil and ideal as a base for walking - which is my main reason for visiting. All of Dorset is within easy reach, and the coast is only a couple of miles away. The cottages are of superb quality, tasteful and charming (with added touches like flowers, tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival). All products used are environmentally friendly and whatever can be recycled is. The owners, Peter and Jane, are always so welcoming and hospitable, and maintain very high standards. I can't recommend Holcombe Valley Cottages too highly.

I'm absolutely stunned to see the 'be aware' review of this cheery place. I could not of got better customer service from the providers, they were welcoming, warm people who made my stay even more enjoyably. Set in a picturesque valley in Dorset, Holcombe valley cottages really did fit the dream of a place in the country. With stunning scenery of the countryside and a pleasurable walk away from views of the sea, pack a picnic basket and your set for a perfect afternoon. A major plus is the accommodation is only a stones throw away from the typical British seaside resort of Weymouth providing a more lively atmosphere that the kids can enjoy. I stayed in Kingfisher, the four sleep accommodation, even though the kids room wasn't as spacious, ours had our very own en-suite and our open plan living and kitchen space truly fit the light and spacious area i expected, find charming views of greenery everywhere you look. I really feel that the cottages are fit for anyone looking to live the country dream.
