“Better in certain times of year”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

Sadly when we visited at the end of June, we had missed all the rhododendrons and azaleas which would have been amazing and given lots of lovely colour. I would recommend checking what plants there are to see before visiting. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk but would call it more of a walk around an arboretum than a garden. We did not meet any other visitors and it was a very peaceful afternoon – stopping every now and again to take in the plants and views.
As mentioned by previous reviewers – give the toilets a miss!

“A very disappointing visit to Minterne Manga Gardens”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

We have visited this garden many times over the past few years. However, a few days ago we had a poor experience there. We noted a number of projects underway to improve the circuit around the gardens (no doubt costing an appreciable amount of money) but noted also that the weeds around the lower ponds continued to increase ...Mare's Tail in particular, which has been spreading during recent years with no clear signs of attempted control. However, of real concern was the disgusting state of the toilets provided for paying visitors. They were absolutely filthy, poorly maintained and could pose a health hazard to users..

“A Pleasant Visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014 via mobile

We visited the gardens with some friends whilst walking in the area. After paying our £5 each to go in we toured the 1.5 mile path through some attractive gardens with the area around the ponds and brook the most attractive. The gardens aren't in any way manicured but planted and left to develop in a natural way. There are no catering or other facilities here and the advertised toilet we found was disgusting! Aside from that we had a pleasant visit and a lovely picnic on the lawns overlooking the lake.

“Delightful gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

Visited on a Saturday, and the gardens were very quiet - although preparing for a wedding. There was lots of parking, and we followed the signs into the garden. The signs took us along the driveway, we paid our £5 entry fee, and continued past the beautiful house (not open to the public). The signs take you on a loop through the garden, meaning that you can't miss anything. The bottom of the valley was our favourite area, with lots of clever planting around lovely pools and cascades. There were also stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There was a new area just being planted, which will be lovely once established. We brought a picnic, which we enjoyed in the picnic area by the car park. Will definitely visit again.

“A very special place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

Decide to visit after a friends recommendation. We live in Southampton and were visiting friends in Dorset for a weekend. They knew it but had not been. The website just doesn't do it justice - we managed to see the glorious rhododendrons and camellias just before they finished. What a spectacle. The house is still a family home and not open to the public but we felt it was like walking round a very wealthy relations gardens. Just a tranquil and perfect atmosphere with so much to enjoy for gardeners. Even non gardeners would love the walk around the lake. If you are in the area - near Cerne Abbas- then please go if you enjoy getting away from the madding crowds! You really wont be disappointed.
