Only fish served lunchtime! We came here a few years ago and there was a good selection of different foods. I have a very bad fish allergy so couldn't eat anything apart from cheese & Biscuits (£8!). Needless to say we didn't stay and pootled back to Penzance to the Dolphin which was great

I appreciate it is Newlyn and they are next to the fish market but to cater for vegetarians might not be a bad idea, even the soup was fish! We spoke to the lady behind the bar who said they only did fish as they were next to the fish market - not great customer service. Had she said she'd organise egg & chips or something (not rocket science) we may have stayed

The food here is excellent and the staff work very hard tp provide a good level of service. If you were really finding fault the place could do with a few new chairs and tables and the menu can be a bit restricted. But these are minor faults and this is a really good place.

Having been huge fans of Ben Tunnicliffe's cooking when he was at Abbey, We were thrilled to stumble across The Tolcarne when we returned to Cornwall this summer. As we now have 2 young children, the family friendly set up was a real bonus. The menu was short, the dishes all sounded delicious, and the fact that they could all be had as child sized portions was a refreshing change from most places. The food was absolutely spot on. Spanking fresh fish, seasonal veg, and desserts that we were willing to fight over.
On the day that we went, a member of the front of house staff had called in sick. But if we hadn't been told about it, we would have been none the wiser. The service was friendly, efficient, and helpful. Needless to say, we will be going back next time we visit Cornwall.

Lovely, this little find of a restaurant. Excellent short menu based on seasonal and daily availability. Scallop and spinach velouté, skate wing with broad beans and peas - excellent. A couple of menu substitutions handled with no problem, friendly and competent wait staff. A must visit. booking required in tourist season I think.
