The merchants and restaurants of Marina Port La Royale are engaged in slow suicide. They refuse to take action to preserve what was once the "most happening" place on the Island.
Going down the tubes is an understatement.
The streets around are not secure and you park and walk at your own risk, not a Gendarme or security person in sight. Be prepared to be hassled, and a mugging in the main parking lot is not uncommon.
Once inside the marina has the distinct smell of an open sewer. It is depressing as a number of stores and restaurants are closed and boarded-up, and many of the shops now close before the dinner hour. Oh yes, be prepared to be confronted by a slightly loopy homeless person or two on the board-walk.
During the day, when Marigot is open for business, it is a a bit better.
