We stayed at Bear Country Jan 2014 and just loved it! I've never written a review on a past stay but thought this place should be acknowledged!

In the past we've stayed at most resorts the Whiteshell as well as a few in Clear Lake and by far this was the very best! VERY clean cabins, excellent staff, comfy beds and priced much better than all the others!

This is officially our new fav place!

Room Tip: Pick Cottage 1 or 2 if you have the option.

"Our new fav place"! Now that is music to our ears!! We're so happy you had such a positive experience. When you think cottage country, you might think summertime, but wintertime at Bear Country Cottages is also very magical! We hope to see you again soon!

We stayed in a nice little 2 bedroom cabin. It was all we needed. We visited in the off season. We didn't use the hot tub on the deck.

We did however use the jetted tub in the main bedroom.

The kitchen and living room area were great. While I cooked I could talk with my wife.

We checked in late, so we had to call to have someone check us in. No big deal we were there to relax, no time constraints.

All the windows had very nice views of the property. Large bags if feed were placed outside the cabins, so we got to watch deer feed pretty much all day.

The shower was small, but I didn't really care. I was heading to a small cabin in the woods, not an executive downtown ritzy hotel.

Only thin I didn't like was that the fireplace was limited to compressed fake logs. Not my style. Oh well.

This was the perfect place for a quiet winter getaway. We stayed in a 2 bedroom Cabin. Very cozy, nice fireplace that burns artificial logs. Newer flat screen TV over the fireplace. Very large tub in the master bedroom, the jacuzzi tub was the highlight of our stay. Older TV in master bedroom. Simple style eat-in kitchen. Screened in deck with BBQ. Deer roaming freely around the property. It seems that management provides food for them. At one point I counted 10 looking through the cabin window! Worth noting is our 4G network phones with MTS worked flawlessly. Hope to return again in the future.

Cottage was beautiful and the stay was peaceful. The hot-tub was never hot when we went in - and temperature would drop very quickly once we got in (thus, we missed out on the hot-tub enjoyment). The bedrooms/Kitchens were great - could have better bedding (i.e., nicer quilt for winter stays - not the foam hotel blankets). Loved the space in the kitchen to all work together at meal times. The living room, again beautiful, however, fireplace just too grand for the TV to be so high in such a small space. As much as it is a getaway - it was frustrating to have to walk down and call for assistance and then wait, nice when there is someone at a desk to check in with throughout your stay. The TV was a bit of an issue when we arrived - was sorted out, however, not friendly to use.

Our family of four just got back from a week's stay (July 6-13, 2012) in one of the two bedroom cottages. We stayed in the "Brook" cabin, which was the perfect size for us. Our cabin was very clean, cozy and we loved the fact that so many attractions were close by.

Favorite Things About This Resort:

Very quiet and private. The other cabins were fully booked, but we did not hear any noise from the other guests.

Excellent location. Many great beaches nearby (we visited Grand Beach west and Hillside Beach) and Thunder Mountain waterslides are only a 10-15 minute drive away. We drove around the area and found lots of cute little stores to shop for supplies and ice cream. Only an hour's drive from Winnipeg, so we took a quick trip to the city during the week to catch a movie and take a break from the sun.

Prompt, friendly service. We had a problem with a couple of the elements on our stove not heating properly, so we contacted the owner. She was very courteous on the phone and promised to take care of the problem right away. She even left extra towels for us when she stopped by.

Fun stuff for kids on site. Our boys (ages 5 and 3) enjoyed the on site playground (lots of mosquitoes here, so bring bug spray!). There are also free bike rentals with many adult and kids' bikes available.

Screened in porch with BBQ. It was great to cook and relax on the porch without getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Fully stocked kitchen. The only thing we had to bring was paper towels and a measuring cup. I would suggest also bringing plastic wrap and a few small containers with lids for leftovers.

Hand held shower head in bathroom. This worked great for rinsing the sand off our little guys' toes after a day at the beach.

Spacious living room. I had enough room to do my fitness dvd.

Suggestions for Improvement:

Beds were not comfortable. The queen size bed in the master bedroom is either past it's prime, or a low end coil. The mattresses on the bunk beds also seemed thin and cheap, but our kids didn't mind. We did not use the hide a bed sofa, so I can't comment on that.

Awful smell when filling jetted tub. Whenever we filled the tub, there was a nasty, sewer smell that filled the room. We informed the owner, and if I recall correctly, she told us it was just sulpher gas in the water tank that needs to be vented. The water is clean, but the smell was a big turnoff.

Resort office hours are short. During our stay, the office was staffed from 7-9pm, with longer hours on check-in/check-out days. We had gotten a bit too much sun early in the week and wanted to check out their movie and video game selection during the day, but the office was closed. We ended up driving to Winnipeg to see a movie, which was fun, but we would have preferred to spend the day in our cabin instead.

OVERALL: We enjoyed our stay here very much. Great value for our money and service was very good. Will definitely be back, if we can get reservations.

Room Tip: If you are staying here during the summer months, make sure to bring bug spray. The mosquitoes are...

I had a weekend getaway with 3 of my friends and had a wonderful time. I loved everything about the cabin except maybe the weather (cold and rainy) but we didn't care we were there to have fun and we did! The rooms were spacious. Tv's in every room. Satellite Tv and surround sound. The hot tub was awesome on the cold nights. We barbecued burgers and steaks, played boardgames, drove to lester beach which was like 3 minutes away, took a stroll in the sand put our feet in the water (too cold to swim) I didn't find the on site manager to be rude or anything he was just stern and to the point. This is my first time there and if i were rich i would buy the 3 bedroom cabin at the end of the road we stayed in... I will definitely come back again... and again!

Room Tip: bring your own laundry detergent, paper towels and big garbage bags!

Me and the wife stayed in a luxury cabin at the end of the road for 3 nights and it was great it had everything we could have wanted the cabin was very clean and the hot tub was awesome. I would recommend the resort to anyone looking to get away for a quite relaxing stay. Theres tons of beaches and things to do around the area and South Beach Casino is about a 10 minute drive.

Thanks for the great stay guys see you in the summer!!
