After expressing interest in wanting to dive the Poor Knight Islands, we were told that Yukon Dive was a great choice if you didn't want a big crowd. Taking that advice, we booked a 3 dive day trip with them. When we arrived at the marina, the team greeted us with smiling faces and a relaxed "I love this job" attitude. Our initial brief on the boat was thorough but to the point. The boat was well looked after and has a warm water faucet. This is a nice luxury to get you warmed up after your dives in the cool waters of New Zealand. They also have a marine life identification book they have put together with all species found on the Poor Knights. It’s a nice tool to have when you come up from a dive and want to figure out what you just saw. I can’t remember the skippers name but he was extremely knowledgeable about the islands, sites, and marine life. The site briefs gave us a good idea of what to expect and the divemaster did a good job of taking us to all the best spots. Since we were doing 3 dives that day, we had to stay on a tight schedule but the skipper did a fantastic job of providing with ample surface interval time while at the same time getting us in the water and all without making us feel pressured for time. By the end of our dives, we had been stunned by the marine life and very happy to have chosen Yukon Dives!

(originally posted this review elsewhere as at the time Yukon Dive didn't have a TA listing)

We dived the Poor Knights with the wonderful Yukon Dive, and are so glad we did - Noel Jo and their team are by far the most relaxed yet most professional operation we've had the pleasure of diving with. Plenty of time is allowed for sorting out your gear, getting there, briefing, gearing up, and the diving - we were told to take as long as we liked, and we did!
Arrow the boat has plenty of room for divers, staff, gear, sandwiches, kayaks and sunbathing, and we were superbly looked after, receiving detailed dive briefings on the sites and what to look out for, a tour around the Poor Knights between dives, help gearing up if you need it and a hot drink after every dive.
We took our own dive gear, but the rental equipment looks to be quite new and in good condition.
What was particularly enjoyable about diving with Yukon is that more experienced divers are allowed to explore in their own groups or pairs, but a guide is always available if you want one. This makes for a really relaxing dive, no-one rushing you back to the surface before you're ready because someone else has guzzled all their air. Beginners were well looked after and everyone benefits from being in a small group.
As for the diving - it was wonderful - great sites with plenty of interest, caves, arches, swim throughs, all teeming with marine life big and small, like being in an aquarium. It was coffee-table booktastic! There are 60+ different sites, so you could visit multiple times and not get bored. We're already planning another visit - with Yukon of course!

Recently we dived with Yukon dive, and the service from the team was truly fantastic. Nothing was too difficult and everything was arranged for a great experience. If you are diving in the Poor Knights, New Zealand (which is well worth while by the way), I thoroughly recommend Noel and the guys at Yukon Dive

If you are looking for the ultimate Poor knights experience with a smaller group of divers, surrounded by the most friendly and professional crew who are very passionate about the environment, then you shouldn't look any further ... and call Jo !

After our fantastic adventure we all went for a beer in the local restaurant. Like a family ;-)

Don't forget to grab a T-shirt before you go home. Beautiful design, available in any color.

Three of us went diving with Yukon Dive a couple of days ago and we all really enjoyed our day - great boat, friendly and genuine crew, excellent dive sites, and plenty of sunshine to make the beer taste even better once we got back!! Thanks again, we'll be back!
