We just discovered the Melting Elefante and what a pleasant surprise. This small hotel (only three or maybe four rooms) has a Dr. Seuss meets Dali-type of feel. True beachfront lodgings with great food and a nice vibe. We've been to the Popoyo/Guasacate Beach area for years and lodging choices have been limited to really cheap hospedajes or pricier lodgings that were nice but not beachfront. Now we have the Melting Elefante and I'm happy we have the option we were looking for. Yeay! Marcus is a great host and quite a good chef as well. He makes a great omelet and we heard his lobster pasta is out of this world! Highly recommended...

Room Tip: The room upstairs has the best view by far, but $$

I've stayed in some pretty cool off the wall places but this place is a definite stay to put on your list if you like unique architecture quiet spacious comfortable rooms where you can here the ocean just steps away. The Melting Elefante has a great owner that will make you feel right at home. This place is a surfers dream spot with some off the best breaks firing year round right around the corner.......If not able to stay just stop by for a ice cold Tona or a great meal and smiling faces

We extended our stay at Melting Elefante about three times and finally left because we felt that we should continue travelling through Central America during our limited time - rather than because we wanted to. There are three rooms, we chose the smallest and cheapest, which was still huge and right on the beachfront. Marcus and Mari were superb hosts - and we had the most divine food... I particularly recommend the waffles and ridiculously tasty lobster (delivered fresh by a local fisherman that morning). We started discussing our return trip before we'd even left. Neither of us surf, and despite Popoyo being a real surf destination we were never bored - and usually were the only two people on the long (3km?) beach swimming. Felt safe, pampered and very very releaxed.

When my friends took me here, I was blown away by the design and architecture. The establishment is shaped like a giant mushroom with tons of interesting detailing. I felt like I was in a dream or maybe in a video game. The hotel is really clean and the owner and staff were really hospitable! Our first visit was for a delicious breakfast with heaping portion of omelettes, a giant waffle and bacon! We could have split it between three people and still have leftovers! Our second visit was after dinner hours, and we were hungry driving around. My friend knocked on the owners door and he came out with a smile and offered to cook us dinner! He made us the best Lobster tail pasta I've had in a really long time. Again, the portions were so big we all had to get plates to take home!
The convience of the location being situated right on the beach makes it fantastic to never have to leave the area. Being well fed, clean cartoonish-like rooms, the beach front, tide pools, and lively area, makes this one of my new favorite travel spots! Soooo worth the three hour drive from Managua!

Room Tip: E-mail ahead to find availability.

I was the first guest at this little Bed and Breakfast while the owner was puting on the final touches ,, Great views and excellent location to the surf break of Popoyo.. The lodge is concrete formed into the shape of a giant mushroom(very cool)!! It's the safest, most secure place I've stayed in by far.

Room Tip: All three rooms are good-- The one upstairs rocks!

It was the most creative hotel in the world and for sure the best one on that beach. We've been visiting the fairytale house from the Neverhood (it's a cult adventure game from nineties with the use of 'claymation' graphics ) All the details: bed, bathroom, lights, little windows, inside and outside... words are not enough for describe. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT))
even if you not gonna stay there by any reason, come there for check how great is the food by the owner-chief.
