This place is the perfect combination of surfing followed by chilled out hammock breaks, partying with a whole bunch of instant new friends, talking surf and travel, going for an explore and finding beautiful views and nature. I stayed for three weeks helping out in the hostel and felt like part of a very cool little community that I was really sad to leave. There's just a great vibe in a great location with really great staff so if you're into that, then Camino Del Gigante is for you!

I paid $26.00 for a private room and shared bathrooms. I couldn't stay. The bathrooms were filthy. I told the manager. He said someone would clean them right away. Someone swished out the crusty diarrhea in the toilet and that was it. Surfer dudes can handle that, but I wouldn't recommend it for families or other travelers. I found the Mirardor Margarita down the road a block. I paid $25 for a clean and private bathroom/room.

We were well looked after from our first contact with the staff at Camino Del Gigante, we rented the 3 rooms in the villa ‘Colorline’ which was great for our larger group of 7.
The accommodation was perfect, right on the beach, very secure, 3 bedrooms all with aircon, a big comfy outdoor lounge, fantastic art everywhere, serviced regularly, modern bathrooms. The Camino Del Gigante restaurant across the street was great place to have something delicious to eat, watch the sunset and have a few drinks. John was a fantastic host, looking after our every need and happily going out of his way to arrange transport for us. Part of our group also went on a fishing trip with Robbie and caught sailfish and Mahi Mahi which was great; they even cooked the Mahi Mahi for us to eat that night which was a big highlight of the trip.
We stayed for 10 days and it couldn't have been better, this is a fantastic place to stay and we will definitely return!

My husband and I stumbled upon Camino Del Gigante and were glad we did! The owner, John, is great and has several properties along the beach, as well as the best restaurant/bar on the beach, so there are lots of room options to choose from.
Gigante is a quiet town and visitors seemed to be predominantly surfers, young backpackers, or those who like off-the-beaten path places. We are older (50ish), so opted for the air-conditioned room across the street from the beach. It was $55 a night and it was incredibly clean, with a huge tiled bathroom, nice sitting area outside, etc. There are only 3 rooms in this property, so it's super quiet and intimate. Other options range from dorms to cheaper hostel rooms that are $10 and up.
There are many activities to choose from that are all on a bulletin board in the restaurant, which seems to be the number one place by far for people to gather and watch the sunset, have a few drinks, eat awesome food (when's the last time you had baby arugula in your salad in Central America?), and celebrate life. The activities are also less expensive than anywhere else in Southern Nicaragua. It was only $10 for a boat/surf trip to Manzanillo or the other local breaks, $60 for fishing, etc.
Irish Rob, the boat captain (and all around nice guy) was super helpful with advice about where to surf (via walking and boat), as well as answering other general travel and activity questions.

This isn't the Four Seasons or a super organized surf camp, where boats leave every morning at the crack of dawn. Things are a bit slow-paced and they are also definitely a bit funky - i.e. they were working on the boat motor in the courtyard outside our room and the pet duck showed up every morning looking for food. But if you like that kind of stuff, like I do, and are looking for a clean, friendly, beautiful, inexpensive place to stay, check this place out!

p.s. Super comfortable bed and nice sheets!

Playa Gigante is a slice of pure paradise, complete with sunshine, music, surfing and good food. If you want to relax on the beach all day and all night, or groove to the music in the Crobar this place has it all. Staying at the hostel means tons of fun all day and into the night. If you prefer a little more peace and quite head to any of the other four properties owned by Gigante Bay. Each accommodation has a different sense of character, whether you're looking for a suite with your family, a little cabin, dorms or newly finished private rooms.

With so many activities offered and a natural playground surrounding you the days go fast, so plan on staying longer than you think. Great food makes if even harder to part with Gigante.

Just ask John the owner, he's been here for almost eight years and still can't get enough of it. His natural happy go lucky attitude is contagious, a great host and owner.

So get ready folks, once you're here you may never want to leave!

Arrived in Playa Gigante with no reservations and stumbled on this end of the road surf bar/restaurant/hotel hoping we could get a room and a meal. John and his crew were so friendly and welcoming, despite the full bar and dining room that we walked into, and after a few minutes wait we were taken to a very comfy, reasonably priced room just down the way. We returned for a tasty meal in the surf themed, open air bar/dining room. This is definately the coolest overgrown surf shack I've seen on this coast. Next day rented a kayak for a few bucks from these guys and when I returned John, the owner was welcoming me back with a complimentary drink! Turns out that while hanging out and enjoying the view from the beachfront my wife had happened to mention that it was my birthday that day- John has the soul of a true host and his genuine friendliness was a great birthday treat.
Playa Gigante is a little out of the way, but that's mostly a good thing. John and his family and crew made it all memorable.

A friend and I stayed here recently and we had a great time. We planned to stay in Gigante for two days, and ended up staying for five. We stayed in a private room for two, with a bathroom, and we found that it was really comfortable, and with a fan going, a pretty good temperature even without A/C. We did have to specifically request to have our trash taken out and the floor swept, but every time we asked, they were prompt about responding.

The location is great--at the southern end of Playa Gigante, it's in easy walking distance to just about everything else. There's no WiFi here, so it's a nice escape from technology. The patio is a great place to hang out, and there's lots of hammocks and rocking chairs for relaxing. Rental of paddle boards and surfboards was easy and pretty inexpensive ($5/hour).

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, the food here is priced more like one would expect at an American restaurant (about $6 for breakfast, maybe $8-10 for dinner), but the food is delicious. Also, there's lots of other places to eat in town, so the food price is no reason not to stay at the hostel.

Lastly, they had an awesome reggae concert while we were there, and although the music was pretty loud, it was great! The other nights we stayed were pretty quiet, at least past about 10:30pm. Overall, a great experience.
