“Great Place”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

This place is truly beautiful. They have a great location just on a hill, so you can see the ocean from their terrace. The owners and everyone that works there are really nice and they are like a little family, creating a sense of home. They serve Canadian style breakfast and all the food is really great, serving up meals you didn't think were still possible in Nicaragua. They have a gorgeous pool and the rooms are cheap and really nice. They also have really good Wi-Fi and a TV at the bar for watching the news or futbol games or hockey games! Really a good spot to check out in Nicaragua.

Touring the coast of Nicaragua with my husband, son, Maxx and Lily when we stumbled upon Hotel Brio. Great find! Lesley and Ivan were quite the hosts making us feel at home with good food, showers and beds! We left to continue North along the coast but not one place could compare to "our" Brio. Maxx (my son) and Lily returned to stay another 5 days for some super surfing and another friendly stay. Unfortunately Gary and I had to return home. :( Thanks Brio...hopefully we'll see you again!

My girlfriend and I decided to take a12 day trip to Nicaragua and make Playa Gigante our home base. We found Hotel Brio online and decided that for the price we couldn't go wrong. We have both travelled extensively and as such we were expecting mediocre accommodations and food. Boy were we wrong!!!

Firstly,
We were picked up by Alex (their driver) in Managua. he was courteous and helpful and even had a sign when we arrived at the airport. A great guy. After arriving at 12:30 in the morning we weren't expecting much in the way of fanfare. Lesley and Yvan both woke up and opened up the bar for us so we could have a much needed adult beverage after our long journey (15 hours). They bought us our first round and regaled us with their story of how they ended up in this quiet hamlet. They were very engaging and super friendly and since we were starving they even went and made us sandwiches at 2 am. We would get to know them very well over the course of our stay. After a few drinks we were shown to our rooms. The rooms were amazing. Clean and organized with fresh linens and complimentary soaps and shampoos. I immediately took a hot shower. Yes, a hot shower as they have hot water. We turned on the brand new air conditioner and went to bed.

After having a great nights sleep we proceeded to go check out the restaurant for breakfast and some much needed coffee. Yvan and Lesley were both awake and had breakfast with us. I was amazed we could get a Canadian breakfast like back home and it was terrific. Chef lacy did a wonderful job and that was the first of many , many delicious meals prepared by her. The other staff particularly Donald, Eric and Lotta (Swedish defectors lol) were very gracious and attentive the whole time we were there as well.

The view cannot be beat, especially from the swimming pool where we spent many a night staring at the stars. it was also a great place to meet some of the locals who would drop by for a beer and swim a few laps. It was nice to make friends and swap stories. the whole place is just so inviting and comfortable.

What really blew me away though was how generous Yvan and Lesley were. they took time out of their own working days to show us around the country. Since they had to go to places like Grenada, San juan del Sur, Rivas and Masaya they would invite us along. When we offered to pay for gas they wouldn't hear of it. i don't know if this is something do regularly but it showed me how dedicated they are to customer satisfaction. At one point we needed money and we sent Yvan with our bank card and he did us the favour of getting our cash, all so we could enjoy a day at the beach. What a great guy.

To sum it all up we had a great trip. The rooms were amazing, the food was delectable, the town and beach (5 min walk) awesome and the service was efficient and friendly. We would not hesitate to go back there again. In fact we are going back in August.

Yvan and Lesley clearly have the expertise and the wherewithal to make this place a true success story. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay with awesome food at very reasonable prices. i was shocked at how low their prices were. i have been on many trips to the south and far and away this was the best trip I have ever had. I have already referred family and friends for a visit.

Like all the reviews before this one, it truly is amazing. I would book this place before anyone finds out about it. Oh and if you are Canadian (like us) they have CAESARS!!!!! Clamato and celery salt to boot.

5 stars for everything, especially for their cute puppy Paco. I hope to see them again real soon.

Ryan and Shannon

Room Tip: If it is April ask for the room with AC. You can thank me later. It was 45+ every day.

This is an amazing hotel that my wife and I stumbled upon near the end of our stay. It is about a 5 minute walk away from the "main strip" in Gigante, and thus, that much of a walk away from the beach, but it would have been worth it. The dinner was amazing--the best meal that my wife and I had during our week long stay in Nicaragua, including much more expensive places in Managua. The hotel had a comfortable feel, without being over the top. The prices were about the same as the places on the beach, but felt more secure and clean.

The new owners are Canadian and were very nice. It was clear to me that they are proud of their hotel and that they love to have pleased visitors. They came up and introduced themselves during dinner. Our waiter was attentive, almost to a fault. It was a windy night, and he must have came by to light our table candle 5 times during the meal, which highlights the level of service that they offer.

The owner showed us around the property and to the lap-swimming pool, and invited us back to swim in it. I came up for breakfast a couple days later and took him up on his offer and the view of the ocean from the pool was breathtaking. Wifi throughout the grounds, including the pool, worked well, and the restaurant/lounge featured a large screen TV and hammock-like chairs to read in and a selection of DVDs, books, and board games. I noticed some ocean-view hammocks that the guests could lay in, which looked very inviting.

In sum, this place looks like it would be a steal for twice the price. I would note that anyone looking at this should note that the ownership recently changed and you can rest assured ignoring any negative reviews from the previous owners.

A few friends and I cruised down to enjoy some sun and surf for school holiday, and chose quite the incredible little place to stay. Brio is a true gem that offers every comfort available while never feeling out of place or pompous. Lesley and Yvan, as well as the Brio staff, offer up some world class Canadian hospitality. They were truly gracious hosts and went out of their way to make sure our visit was as enjoyable and fun as possible.

Lesley and Yvan are very well connected in town and throughout the country to every activity you can imagine, and only involve the best people for anything fun that you could think of (surfing, fishing, yoga, car rentals, taxis, etc). Side-note; the people in Gigante, both expats and locals, are incredibly friendly by nature, and I highly encourage anyone visiting the area to get to know the sleepy town a bit better, since you'll see everyone multiple times per day!

Another thing I really have to mention is the food. If you are not after hardcore local cuisine, then Brio has the best food in Gigante, especially dinner. Lacy and crew are awesome. End point.

Sure, the hotel is a little walk from the beach but honestly it really doesn't matter that much unless you are 80 and walking is extraordinarily laborious, but the beaches are empty, beautiful and I highly recommend Brio and the area!

Oh, and Yvan fully has the right to proclaim coldest beers in Gigante.

Room Tip: Get AC if you are coming to Nicaragua from a cold place. I could've gone off it after two night...

My Fiance and I came across Hotel Brio while exploring Playa Gigante, and so grateful that we did. We stayed in one of their basic rooms which was more than perfect for us. It provided us with a clean room, hot shower, and ventilation. Everything that we needed. Yvan, Leslie, and their staff were very welcoming, providing great hospitality during our stay. I have never been so pleased with the service in a Hotel. Not to mention, what an amazing view there is from the swimming pool! If we ever go back to Playa Gigante, I already know where I would be staying.

Dinner was great, and not just because there's a shortage of fine dining. Clever and well prepared menu items were complimented by excellent service. Try their version of the Margarita.
