A great getaway with breathtaking scenery to recharge the batteries. Loved relaxing in the jacuzzi in the evening with swallows flying over our heads. It's the little touches; log fire, board games, books, games room, cakes and wine to welcome us that made it special - but most importantly, we could take our dog.

We stayed in Cloven Stone. Two lovely en-suite bedrooms downstairs, open plan kitchen, dinning, lounge upstairs with a hot tub on the balcony. Games room and play area for kids, the electric gate means they can't get out onto the road. Great location for days out in Carlisle, Penrith, Cumbrian coast and the lakes. Lovely and very helpful owners.

Our family of eight adults and three small children spent a wonderful week at Great Calva cottage at Monkhouse Hill. The house had everything we could need and it was the perfect layout for the dynamics of our family. The children's playground was a godsend and thankfully we had the good weather to enjoy it. We found plenty of things to do in and around the area and made good use of the North Lakes Hotel Spa pass where we visited the pool twice and the ladies had a spa treatment. I would highly recommend the Monkhouse Hill complex.

A very nice location and well equipped apartment. The family who run the "cottages" were delightful, nothing was too much trouble. Home made cakes on arrival, and the little things had been thought of. There are plenty of facilities to cook for yourself, both within the accommodation, and you can borrow a BBQ. This is really useful as there is nowhere to eat within walking distance, and taxi fares are very expensive. We paid £25 for a 5 minute taxi journey. The accommodation we stayed in was an apartment within a cottage. although these are advertised as cottages and look like cottages, we only had one floor, with other people above us. I think this is only the case for the smaller accommodation. The grounds were lovely, and you get use of a local spa. It would only take some minor adjustments to make this place excellent. Generally a lovely place, the main reason I would be hesitant to return is the lack of somewhere within walking distance to eat out. I think that the proprietors would benefit from offering their own reasonably priced service where you can arrange with them to take you & bring you back if you fancy going out for a drink. It would make them some extra money and be beneficial to their guests who don't want to cook every night, and begrudge paying stupid rates for village taxis.

Room Tip: When booking ask if your "cottage" will have anyone else staying above you. Depending on...

Many thanks for your kind comments and suggestions.
I’m very sorry you weren’t aware of the layout of your accommodation in advance of your stay – the opening paragraph on our web-page about the property describes Fisher Gill as a ground floor cottage apartment.
We are indeed in a rural location and not in a village with pub. There are pubs serving food in several local villages within a short drive. Alternatively, we offer a range of supper delivery services to the cottages and are licenced to provide wines and beers.
I fear I inadvertently contributed to the confusion re the taxi cost when I booked the taxi for you – I mistakenly thought you would be charged half this price for your journey. Please accept my apologies. We are now putting together a schedule of approximate taxi fares to local destinations.

A group of six of us stayed at the Brae Fell cottage, and we all thought our stay as a whole was brilliant. The cottage is well stocked, looks great, has everything you could need, and was incredibly comfortable.

The grounds of the cottages are very nice and the indoor games room is excellent, and kept us well entertained. The owners were happy to let us have our own space for the large majority of our stay but were always friendly and helpful if we needed anything. We especially appreciated being able to stay well past the advertised check out time, probably staying for too long in the end.

All in all, it was a brilliant stay and I would highly recommend it.

There was 26 girls all got together to celebrate a hen do over a 3 night weekend. On arrival each cottage had a complementary bottle of wine & some home baked cakes, which were gorgeous!
The Accommodation & their surroundings were beautiful as were the spa facilities in the North Spa Lakes Hotel which was included in our price of the cottages! The owners couldn't of done more for us, very helpful and understanding.
Definitely worth a visit!
Would 100% go again with my family!
Very peaceful and easy to find!
