We were a family of 2 adults, 2 children (8 and 13) with dog and Nicky (the owner) met us on arrival and made us very welcome. She showed how everything worked from the woodburner (not used one before) through to using the halogen cooker and what to do in the local area. The house was extremely comfortable and cosy, everything was supplied, from towel for the dog up to pint of milk left in the fridge for a welcome cuppa! The standard of décor and fixtures and fittings were of a very high standard, especially the bedding which was very nice to fall asleep under after a busy day walking and exploring. The shower and bathroom in general, was very good too. Also available were a selection of books and games which was very thoughtful too.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely return.

We loved staying here, due to an odd arrival time Nicky couldn't meet us but had left the keys in the easy to find village shop, along with some milk for a brew when we finally arrived!

The cottage is beautifully furnished, very cosy and comfortable, with modern kitchen and bathroom, while the rest of the living space is very country cottage - this is topped off by the excellent wood burner!

There isn't a shortage of things to do in the lake district. But Caldbeck is a little off the beaten track, I found this added to the charm, not being surrounded by the masses

“Cosy cottage, perfect for couples or small family's!”

We only stayed for a couple of nights, but when we arrived we where greeted by the owner who showed us around and made us feel very welcomed, she showed us everything we needed to know and then left us to get on with it ourselves!

Both of the bedrooms where beautiful, with the main room being well furnished, the bed was extremely comfy, and the sheets were very soft.

The kitchen and bathroom are very modern however this works perfectly with the house. The kitchen is very well equipped with good quality pots and pans!

We would highly recommend and are already planning our return visit!

“Lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful small village”

Caldbeck village looks just like something you'd see on a jigsaw or chocolate box. Quaint stone cottages in pastel shades.

The cottage itself is luxurious - newly renovated with no expense has been spared.

We felt welcome - and the owner had even left a dog biscuit out for our four legged companion!

Calbeck is right at the northern edge of the Lakes and it takes a lot of twisty turny single lane country roads to get anywhere - but this is part of its charm. Keswick is about 15 miles away but allow 45 minutes to get there. A car is essential.

The village's smallness and isolated setting won't suit everyone. There's only one pub (the excellent Odd Fellows Arms) and one shop - so you soon get to know everyone - this can be a bit claustrophobic for city folk like ourselves.

If you want a picture-perfect village and a cosy, warm, clean, modern cottage then don't think twice - this is for you.

Liked best: Cosy, expensively appointed cottage.
