We've stayed here a few times before and it's always been ok - served a purpose and it's in a nice spot. What attracts us is no caravans.
This time we stayed for 2 nights. It was the time of year when you need to book some pitches, and we were lucky to get an unbooked pitch. However, there were plenty of pitches that remained empty for the two nights we stayed, but the campsite said they were full, which was odd.
We also found it very expensive for a basic campsite - £18 per night for a regular tent. You get very little back for this - cleanish toilets and showers.
As with other reviewers, we also found the sheer volume of rules too much. It felt like being back at school.
The showers are rubbish - hot but not at all strong so by the time the water gets to your legs it's cold anyway!
I wouldn't go as far to say the staff were rude, but neither would I describe them as friendly or helpful.
We're not sure if we are going to stay here again - we prefer Putlake down the road, but it's only open for a month, which is a shame.

Its a pretty basic but nice enough camp site but the 'no noise' after 11:45 is a little daft for the simple reason that this includes talking to each other.

We got a 'naughty school boy' style telling off two mornings in a row and all we were doing was sat chatting - not loud, no music, no one shouting - we thought we were respecting the 11:45 rule?!!!!

Perhaps consider learning the basics of sign language before visiting avoiding a slapped wrist and no gold star.

Another observation of the site is that there are signs all over the gaff "Do this, dont do that, you must this, you must not that"…. to the owners - have you ever heard of a "please or thank you"?

We'll not be back - we felt pretty uncomfortable to be honest.

:-(

Tom's Field is a fantastic little find. We, as a group of 9, try to visit every year as the camping season starts. The prices are reasonable and stay that way, year in, year out. The views are absolutely stunning and Tom is a great character. His side-kick, Gimley (the sausage eating dog) has now unfortunately passed away but we have many brilliant memories and stories involving him. This simple site has exactly what you need for a perfect break: clean, hot showers, hygienic loos, large pitches, opportunities to have fires- if you don't have your own equipment, you can hire a fire pit for a reasonable price, the local shop visiting on weekends with freshly baked croissants etc, amazing walks or bike rides nearby. Fording bridge is also only 3 miles down the road. I can't recommend this site enough. Tom is pretty hot on recycling and the site is very well sorted for everyone to be environmentally aware. Your children can run free, riding their bikes, playing ball games or swing on the tyre swing- it is pretty near on perfect and a ride on the gator at the end is the icing on the cake for them!
A super family site, one of my absolute favourites.

Tom's Field is a great little campsite for the price, but I expect it can feel really crowded in high season. Previous reviews were unfair; for £14.50 (low season) a night, the washing up facilities and wash block are great, really well thought through with plenty of sinks etc. Showers were good, enough space and reasonably clean, definitely experienced much worse!

The shop stocks everything you need, and you can rent ice blocks which is always useful...ours had not made it into the freezer before we left! The staff were a bit grumpy, maybe they need a holiday too!

Some great walks/bike rides from the site, plus the Kings Arms in the village is a great pub, very welcoming which sometimes isn't the case at a proper 'local'. The Square and Compass pub is just under 2miles away and is brilliant for the views and their own ciders.

The buses run into Swanage once and hour, £3.60 for an adult return.

We will definitely go back, but will be prepared to be squeezed in.

Also-they aren't joking, the badgers will help themselves to your food if you aren't careful!

As I say the area is the giant plus for this site , great views, and walks down to dancing ledge and beyond are direct from the site . I have been to Toms Field many times over the years even when (old Tom) ran it . Today the site is much the same still uneven and open plan which can cause a problem when the site is busy with people parking and pitching everywhere! the charging system could do with a lot more thought, people seem to abuse what is called a regular tent! The loos and shower's are ok (25p a quick shower!), perhaps an update is in order and the cleaner needs to check more regular. But if you take it as a rural site in a unspoilt village with lovely countryside you cant go too far wrong .

Lovely spot, with views and countryside. The kids had a great time exploring dens and surrounding fields. Staff helpful and facilities were well thought through. (We had lots of rain and there was a warm drying room which we couldn't have done without.) Lots of nice people camping, who've been going for years, which says it all. You can book certain fields prior to arriving.

A Small, very busy campsite, but didn’t feel too crowded, with its own little shop. The shop opens every day from 8am until 6pm and it carries some very basic food provisions and some spare camping equipment but it's not really up to much!
Showers and toilets are fine although could possibly be a bit cleaner! The showers operate on a token basis, 25p for three minutes which you buy from the camp shop, bit annoying if you forget to buy any tokens before the shop shuts though!
The people running the site aren't the happiest of people and not very approachable although they are pleasant enough.
Overall a nice campsite in a lovely location, one nice little touch by the site, they grow their own herbs which you’re welcome to help yourself to if you require some for cooking.
