“Fantastic quality and very welcoming”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

We found the owners very welcoming and great to chat to. The service was great, they were happy to wash our cycle clothing and there is secure bike storage. The bed linen and towels are very high quality. The food was all homemade and very very good. The immediate area might not be lively enough for everyone but this is definitely a great place to stay for those wanting to base themselves in a central location or just passing through. It is very highly recommended.

Stayed at polemonium on a Saturday. We were on way to Newcastle and could not have coped with a Saturday night in 'party capital of europe'.
Great hospitality
Good breakfast
Great night sleep
Interesting hosts.

About the best bed & breakfast we have stayed in.

Visitors are made to feel like guests here, not just customers.

Always a pleasure to have guests to stay and to make their stay special for them. The weather might be wintry but your welcome is always warm at Polemonium Plantery. Looking forward to the snowdrop season shortly, snowdrop pottery and snowdrop biscuits will be coming out next..

Stayed in the Birch Four Poster Suite which was lush. I would point out that this place does tout its green credentials but they arnt finger waggers they just make sure everything is lush especially the organic breakfast. The price at £30 a head was an absolute bargain and I did ask where they got their bed linen from as it was so soft (must be a high thread count). I am not much of a one for plants but the other half is and had a very enjoyable time viewing the gardens while I took advantage of their top to toe beauty treatment package (just the thing for a workaholic).

Room Tip: We liked the Birch room.

It makes all the hard work worthwhile when guests appreciate the service and facilities we provide. We aim to provide everything our guests need to make their stay enjoyable, and buy and grow only the best organic and local products for our rooms and seasonal ingredients for our home made biscuits and breakfasts. With best wishes to all our customers out there, both past and future.

Very poor bed and breakfast. Really boring location, very disappointing garden considering it has a national collection and very dull house with no merit at all. So generally I regretted going there and should have found somewhere nicer in the area.

Room Tip: Be careful of 4 star ratings Plan-lovers beware

Here at Polemonium Plantery, a peaceful country village B&B between Durham and Hartlepool, we take customer care very seriously and try to meet our guests every need. Our recent garden inspector commended on our unusual and interesting plants, although October is not our best month for garden interest. Our plant themed rooms have been admired by our keen garden visitors over the years. People come here for peace and quiet, so younger members of a family may not appreciate the experience as much as the more mature visitor.
