“A pleasant B & B near Hull”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

We stayed here for 2 days just after Xmas while visiting Hull to see Fulham thrashed 6-0 and see what culture Hull has to offer (European City of Culture 2017!).
Our room overlooked the garden towards the Humber; it was quiet and comfortable. Perhaps a little cold but without asking we were supplied a heater by Mia, which worked fine. The bathroom was fine with plenty of hot water. Yes there was only one toilet roll but we just had to ask for another! Mia was very helpful and welcoming.
Hessle is a pleasant area and there is a nice walk nearby along the Humber under the bridge. This house has more character than the Premier Inn in Hull we had first intended to stay in. It's easy to get in to Hull without the car - either take the train from across the road or the 66 bus from Hessle Square 10 minutes away.
It's a little pricey for a B & B but was certainly a nice place to stay. My only negative observation is that breakfast is extra at £7.95 pp (I knew that in advance before we arrived, so could have chosen not to eat there) and although it was fine I think it should have been included in the price like other B & Bs.
I find the 2 most recent reviews slightly odd as we did not experience anything like this!

Room Tip: If you want no noise book the more expensive rooms with garden view.

Four of us arrived on Xmas Eve Mia was very welcoming. Even though this is purported to be a LUXURY B&B we found quite the opposite. It was explained that Breakfast would not be available on Xmas day, ok thats fair enough all families want to be together on Xmas day but we were then told that breakfast would not be available on Boxing Day either. Did I read the advert wrongly 'B&B'!!

We were told that additional towel would be brought to our room shortly after we arrived, this never happened. for three days all we had was one medium bath towel. On arrival there was less than half a toilet roll available, this lasted until the early hours of Xmas day. We thought it would be replenished, it wasnt, Over Xmas Day and Boxing Day it was like the Marie Celeste there was nobody we would ask for anything. There was a mobile tel number to contact IN AN EMERGENCY. Running out of toilet roll isnt an emergency but it is an essential.

We arrived back at 10pm on Boxing day to find a note on our bed that gbreakfast would be available the following day. That was too late because we had no idea what was going on and had made arrangements to have breakfast elsewhere.

The bill was paid, I told Mia that we were very unhappy and she was surprised. Why? The service we received, well actually we never received any service at all, it was farcical.

To top it all off when we were travelling home my step son who was staying in another room at the B&B told us that their towel had been taken from the bathroom on Boxing day and they were left without any towels at all.

Christmas is for families that why we drove 250 miles so that we could be with our family so its only right that the staff at Redcliffe B&B have that time as well but NOT at the full exclusion of paying guests. I have had better service in third world countries and travel lodges that at this B&B and I would never in a zillion years recommend this place to anyone or return their ever again. To sum up:-

Redcliffe B&B is a farce book elsewhere, its not cheap either!!!!!!!!

The hotel was in a convenient location for us, however a little hard to find down a small road. The welcome we recieved was an unfriendly welcoming. They had no idea of our booking and asked if any names were on a scrap sheet if paper that we were handed. Our name was not on the list and our room type was not available. It later turned out that they had not made note of our booking from booking.com. we were then given a twin room instead of a double. With a tiny TV rather than the larger TV that was offered in the description of our en suite double that we had booked. We accepted this was the case after feeling very unwelcome and made to feel as though we had done something wrong. The room itself was very unclean and thick with dust! To top it off just as I was about to draw the curtains I found a piece of chewed chewing gum on the window sil. The room had clearly been cleaned in a rush, if at all! Would not recommend this b&b, how it can even be called luxury is beyond me! Next time I will stay at the premier in 2mins down the road. Very disappointed!

I stayed one night prior to starting out on the Yorkshire Wolds Way. If you arrive by train make sure you know in advance where to find the house, as there may not be anyone around to ask. It involves leaving the station and walking over the busy road via a pedestrian bridge, then turning right towards the Humber Bridge. As others have noted, it is an oasis in a rather unlikely spot.

I was given a ground floor room on the road side, and you can hear the noise. This room has disabled facilities, and the wash basin is too low for comfort, at least if you are 6 ft tall. Also the toiletries are those horrid little sachets that defy every effort to open them except without a pair of scissors.

Otherwise no complaints, the room was a reasonable size and the breakfast was good. I walked down to a pub in the park for dinner, about 10 minutes away, or you could go into Hessle itself, which is about the same distance.

If you are doing the YWW check that the first stage is open. I found it closed, with no diversion signs, and had to walk on busy main roads to North Ferriby.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor room facing the road if possible.

This was a convenience stay in the middle of a trip from Scotland to London. Four of us plus dog stayed in a converted garage which was cosy to say the least but it was only a one night stay. It was good that there were plenty of grounds for the dog to explore at the rear of the main house. We ordered in pizza and accessories for dinner from a local outlet.

I would have rated this as good value for money but, otherwise, just so-so. However full English breakfast plus all the supporting cast (£8) in the delightful dining room overlooking the garden, made it an overall positive experience.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the back if possible to avid noise from the nearby main road

Perfect for a one night stop over or even a couple of nights. Just under the Humber bridge near to the country park. Excellent rooms and very friendly service. We have two big dogs who were made to feel very welcome with a large rear garden for them to explore. Lots of choice at breakfast.

We enjoyed our 2-nights' stay at Redcliffe House. We came up to Hull for our son's graduation, and just needed somewhere literally for bed and breakfast. The first thing is the surprise of the location. It's very near the incessant A63, not far from the Humber Bridge, and to get to it you drive off onto the Hessle foreshore road and go past an unpromising range of industrial premises. But, as soon as you turn into the drive, you enter another world. It's an oasis of elegance and calm, and although you can hear the road from the outside, inside it's perfectly peaceful.
We were welcomed and shown to a very pleasant room with en-suite shower room. It was spotlessly clean and furnished comfortably and conveniently. There was a sweet little box containing a wide selection of drinks sachets, etc. We found that the mattress was rather firm for our personal liking, but there were things available to pad it out a bit, and we slept well. The shower room is nicely set up too, and all works well. There was one slight annoyance which was that the extractor fan is so very noisy – you can even hear others going in neighbouring rooms when other guests are getting up – but at least you can use the basin light instead.
Breakfast was delightful, cooked personally to order, and served in a light and spacious room overlooking the lush garden. Everything was delicious, though the sausage didn't seem very 'meaty'. The cost (£7.95) is added to your bill. It seems rather a lot, but it is similar to other places, and didn't make the overall cost of our stay at all unreasonable. In fact, the option of not buying breakfast gives you a way of saving which you don't get with an inclusive price.
Parking on the smallish front drive was very convenient. There didn't seem to be an issue of space despite the fact that the B&B was full of proud parents! The 5-mile drive to the centre of Hull is fast (about 10 minutes). Hessle station is only 5-minutes' walk, and the Park & Ride is also very convenient (£2.40 return until about 7pm).
We were treated very efficiently and pleasantly, and the price was reasonable. Take cash, though, if you want to avoid paying a surcharge for card use. That took us a bit by surprise as we were checking out. Overall, we reckoned we had done well to come here, and would come again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the house are totally silent (with the windows shut)
